[code] Hajj Experience Play with Abdullah-final

Muslim- Hi everyone. Welcome to the Hajj Experience. Thanks for coming. I think you all will have a
good time. We are going to introduce you to the 5th pillar of Islam- Hajj. It is a journey called the
Pilgrimage. We are going to take you to each station and tell you all about it. Has anyone ever gone
to Hajj?

Abdullah-  - I have, I have!

Muslim -You have?

Abdullah-  -Yes, but I don’t remember much, because I was just a baby then.

Muslim -Does everyone remember Abdullah ?

Abdullah- - As salaamu alaykum kids!

Muslim - Abdullah,  do you want to join us and help us visit the Hajj sites?

Abdullah- - yes...this is going to be fun!

Muslim- Is everybody ready? Let’s go practice our Hajj!

IHRAM Station

Muslim- First we have to prepare to go to Hajj. There are some things we have to do. One is Wudu!
Everyone ready... pretend you are making Wudu!

Muslim: Now you all have purified yourselves. We now have to make our intentions.

Abdullah-  -What is an intention?

Muslim: It is when you say you are going to do something. This intention we say it inside, to
ourselves.

Abdullah- Why do we say it silently?

Muslim: Because Allah (swt) knows what is really in your hearts. Everybody repeat it after me, but
silently: “Here I am Allah in response to your call. Oh Allah there is no showing off or being angry with
the Muslims , You have no partner, Here I am, Indeed all praise, grace, and kingdom  belong to You.”

Abdullah-  Is there anything we say out loud?

Muslim: We can say our vow out loud.

Abdullah- What is a vow?

Muslim: A vow is a promise to Allah, that we will finish our Hajj.

Abdullah-  How do we say it?

Muslim: Oh Allah, if I am prevented by an obstacle, then indeed my place is where you prevent me.

Abdullah-  I don’t get it.

Muslim: It just means that if we can’t finish Hajj because of a good reason, like getting sick, then we
are saying  that it is Allah’s  will.

Muslim: Now, we have to finish up all our business at home. This is called preparing for Hajj.
Go to table with will, card, bills, etc..
Does anyone owe any money? Go pay them.
Did anyone get into a fight? Go say sorry.
Do you have a will made?

Abdullah- What is a will?

Muslim: It is a piece of paper with instructions on it, in case you die.

Abdullah- Do I need one?

Muslim: Most kids don’t, so you don’t have to worry about it now. It is a grown up thing.
Is everyone ready to travel to Saudi Arabia?

Abdullah- - Why Saudi Arabia?

Muslim: Because that’s where Makkah is.

Abdullah- - Why Makkah?

Muslim: Because that’s where the Ka’bah is!

Abdullah- - How do people get there?

Muslim: (point to map and pictures) Boat, airplane, car, bike, and even camels!

Muslim: Is everyone ready to go to a Meeqat?

Abdullah- - What is a meeqat?

Muslim: It is a place where Muslims go to before going to Makkah.

Abdullah- - Does everyone go to the same meeqat?

Muslim: No-(go to meeqat sign)

Abdullah- - What meeqat do we go to?

Muslim: People who live in America go to this one.

Abdullah- - What do you do there?

Muslim: Well, before you cross the line you have to put on the clothes of someone who is making
Hajj.

Abdullah- - What kind of clothes?

Muslim: They are two pieces of white seamless cloths. It looks like this (show Ihram robe, put sashes
on the kids)
We have sashes for everyone to wear just like playing dress up and you can pretend they are our
Ihram  robes!

Abdullah- - How do we wear this?

Muslim: Put the Ihram sash over the left shoulder and under the right arm.

Abdullah- - This is cool I like this. Does everyone wear these?

Muslim: No, just the men, but the women usually like to wear white clothes too. One thing the woman
can’t do is where the niqab or gloves.

Abdullah- -What is a niqab?

Muslim: The face veil. Ok everyone! We made our intention, paid our bills, said sorry and got
dressed properly. Are we ready to go to the Ka’bah?

Abdullah- - Yeah!!! Is this when we get to say Labbayka  allaahumma Labbayk?
Play tape

Muslim: It sure is! It is called the Talibeeyah.

Abdullah- - What does it mean?

Muslim: Point & Look at poster Kids lets say it together... over and over till we get to the Ka’bah!

Keep playing tape

Ka’bah Station

Muslim: Here we are at the Ka’bah!

Abdullah- -Is that someone’s house?

Muslim: Well, some people call it Bait ul Allah (Baytullah), others call it the Honorable house, or the
Sacred House. But no one lives there.

Abdullah- - Who built it?

Muslim: Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh), with his son and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) helped rebuild it. Do
you know who originally built it?

Abdullah- - Prophet Adam?

Muslim: Yep... you are so smart!  It is the first House of Worship.

Abdullah-  Are we supposed to worship the Ka’bah?

Muslim: No! It is the quibla! The focal point for Muslims to pray toward.

Abdullah- - I don’t understand.

Muslim: When you pray, what way do you face?

Abdullah- - My wall.

Muslim: Do you know why you pray that way? Because it is the direction of the Ka’bah. So when we
pray we are actually praying in the direction of the Ka’bah!

Abdullah- - What is that rock in the wall?

Muslim: It is called the Black Stone. It came from Paradise. When Prophet Muhammad  went by it he
kissed it.

Abdullah- - Can we kiss it?

Muslim: I don’t think we should because this is not the real Black Stone, but if you want you can point
to it as we go by.

Abdullah- - How come it is black?

Muslim: Well it started out white- but Prophet Muhammad  said that it turned black because of man’s
sins.

Abdullah- - Yikes! I want to be a better Muslim!  - Is it true that the Black Stone can speak?

Muslim: Yep, on the Day of Judgement it will have eyes and tell Allah who touched it and who was
there. Do you know what we do at the Kab’bah?

Abdullah- We run around it!~

Muslim: We walk around it 7 times. The Pilgrims walk around it counterclockwise outside the
Hateem.

Abdullah- - Is that the white marble wall that looks like a half of a circle?

Muslim: Yes, it is called the Hateem. Along time ago: when they were rebuilding the Ka’bah the
people did not have enough good money to build the Ka’bah as big as Prophet Ibrahim and his son
built it. This wall shows us how big the Ka’bah once was. The portion of the Ka’bah left out is called
the Hij jr and is encompassed by the marble Hateem.

Abdullah- - I heard that there is great shade there.

Muslim: Ha Ha!! Yes this is true. Once as Prophet Muhammad passed the Ka’bah, he saw a man
sitting in this area, between the Ka’bah and the Hateem and said that the man was in the most
honored shade on earth.

Abdullah- - Do we do anything special there?

Muslim: A lot of people like to pray 2 rakats in there and then say they prayed in the Ka’bah!

Abdullah- - What is the Ka’bah wearing?

Muslim: It is called a Kiswa- the Veil.

Abdullah- - What is it made of?

Muslim: Silk and Gold

Abdullah-  -What is that writing on it?

Muslim: It is Arabic. It is the Shahadah and other ayats of the Qu’ran.  Who wants to do Tawaf?

Abdullah- - Me me! What am I supposed to say?

Muslim: Start at the Black Stone and say Allahu Akbar.  One thing a lot of people say between the
Yemini corner and the Black Stone is “ Our Lord, give us in this life that which is good and in the
hereafter which is good and save us from the torment of the fire.” We get rid of a lot of sins that way.
Is everyone ready?
Walk- remind about no pushing or running

Abdullah- - When I was going around the corner I saw a secret door. What was it?

Muslim- What door?

Abdullah-  The gold one on the Ka’bah

Muslim- No silly, it is just an entrance to get inside the Ka’bah.

Abdullah-  What is inside?

Muslim- Well, pretty much it’s empty

Abdullah-  Does anybody live there?

Muslim- No, it used to be filled with idols but Alhumdullillah Prophet Muhammad  broke all the idols!

Abdullah-  Yay for Prophet Muhammad!

Muslim- Did you notice the small gold structure as you walked around the Ka’bah?

Abdullah-  I saw a carousel...

Muslim- Oh, it isn’t a carousel, It is called Abraham’s Station also known as Maqam Ibrahim.

Abdullah-  What is inside?

Muslim- You are not going to believe it.

Abdullah-  Yes I will! yes I will!

Muslim- Inside is a rock that had Prophet Ibrahim’s footprints on it. Allah said that this is a very safe
place and he told us all to pray to Allah by this Station.

Abdullah- What do they pray?

Muslim- After they go around the Ka’bah they pray 2 rakat. Do you want to know how the whole story
of Hajj started?

Abdullah-  Yes!

Muslim- Ok - let’s go over to the two mountains and have a seat. I have a nice story to tell you.

Safa & Marwa

Muslim- Ok everyone sit down and I will tell you a story about a mommy and her son.

It is the story of Prophet Ibrahim   following Allah’s orders to travel to what is now known as
Makkah. Prophet Ibrahim  took his son and wife on a long journey. When they got to a place in the
desert, he told them that he was going to leave them there.
The mom, Hajar, followed him asking “Oh Abraham! Where are you going? Are you leaving us
where there is no people or food or water?”  She asked him this many times but he did not reply.
Then she asked him, “Has Allah ordered you to do this?”  He said “yes.” She then said  “Then Allah
will not neglect us.”  At this time there was no water or people living there. He actually left them in
this barren land.
Prophet Ibrahim gave her a leather bag containing dates and a water skin with water and
then he went back home with out them!
Hajar was an obedient wife and worshiper of Allah  With her baby she was now all alone,  with
no extra food or water. Yet, she knew that Allah  would help her.
Even Prophet Ibrahim  had complete faith in Allah. We are told that when he left and they
could not see him- he prayed to Allah “Oh our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a
valley without cultivation, by thy Sacred house; in order, O our Lord, that they may establish regular
prayer: so fill the hearts of some among men with love towards them, feed them fruits: so that they
may give thanks.”
After Prophet Ibrahim  left, Ismael’s mother went on nursing and taking care of her son. When
the water from the waterskin was all used up, she became thirsty and her milk dried up. Hajar was a
good Muslim.  She did not sit quietly and cry. She went looking for help. She ran from  mountain to
mountain looking for anyone to help her. Many times she ran back and forth searching for help for
her and her son. Throughout this whole time, she never gave up on Allah  and continuously prayed -
“There is no Allah but Allah and Allah is greater.”
When Hajar reached Mount Marwa, she heard a voice.  She stopped to listen and again heard
the voice. She saw nothing but asked- “Oh whoever you may be- You made me hear  your voice;
have you got something to help me?” And she saw Angel Jibriel in the valley. He o

Abdullah- What does ZamZam taste like?

Muslim- Just like regular water but a little bit different, Muslims say it is delicious! And it has special
qualities.

Abdullah- What kind of qualities?

Muslim-  It can make your heart strong and calm you down. There are real stories of how it helps
make sick people feel better.

Abdullah- Did the water do it?

Muslim- Only by Allah saying it could. Many Muslims on Hajj drink as much Zamzam as they can and
make dua while drinking it. - Are you ready for another trip?

Abdullah-  Where are we going now?

Muslim- To Mina!

Abdullah-  What is in Mina?

Muslim- It is a Tent City!

Abdullah-  What is a Tent City?

Muslim-  Let’s go find out!
     Labayk!

MINA

Muslim- This is Tent city!

Abdullah-   What do we do here?

Muslim- It’s a day that the pilgrims prepare for going to Mount Arafaah, rest, and make prayers.

Abdullah- What kind of prayers do they make?

Muslim- Dhikr- Allah who Akbar, Subhana Allah & Al- Humdullilah.

Abdullah- Can we do it?

Muslim- Sure, sit down.
Everyone say after me: (do dhikr) Allah who Akbar.... Subhana Allah ....Al- Humdullilah

It is now night time... pretend that we are all in our tents and go to sleep.

Adthan clock

Muslim- Wake up everybody! Time to go kiddies!

Abdullah- Yawn, where are we going today?

Muslim- To Mount Arafaah!

Abdullah- What do we do there?

Muslim- Let’s go find out!

Labayk!

ARAFAT

Muslim- Here we are!

Abdullah-  I am so excited. Hey- there is nothing here but an empty desert. What do we do here?

Muslim- We are going to pretend that we are going to spend the whole day here until sunset! Soon
the desert won’t be empty, there will be 2 million Muslims here!

Abdullah-  I am hot!

Muslim- I know, the Arafaah part of Hajj is hot and tiring.  A Muslim’s life is a struggle and this
reminds us of the hardships of the Prophets.

Abdullah-  Why are we here? Did something special happen here?

Muslim- It was the day Allah completed our religion. The verse revealed at Arafaah was  “This day I
have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam
as your religion.  Also,  Prophet Muhammad  gave his most famous and last speech here.

Abdullah-  What was the speech about?

Muslim- He told us how to be good Muslims. He told us to follow the 5 pillars, he told us to treat
everybody kind and he made it clear that no one is better than anyone else and the best person is
the one who is the best Muslim.

Abdullah-  What do Muslims do here?

Muslim- The Pilgrims pray to Allah and ask Him to forgive them. Allah will forgive those who feel truly
sorry. There is also a special story. Do you know that everyone knows that there is only one Allah ?

Abdullah- Not my cousins or my school friends!

Muslim- Ah, but they do. Along time ago,  everybody ever born after Prophet Adam stood before
Allah here on Arafaah- before they were born.

Abdullah- Everyone?

Muslim- Yes. Allah gave his covenant to Prophet Adam.

Abdullah-  What is a covenant?

Muslim- A promise.

Abdullah- What was it?

Muslim-   Allah asked all of the people, if He was their Lord.  They answered ‘Yes,’ Then Allah said
that on the Day of Resurrection: you can’t say you did not know this and you can’t give the excuse
that you did not believe in Allah, and blame your parents or family.

Abdullah- What do you  mean?

Muslim- It means that everyone, ever born, was once here on the plain of Arafat and Allah told them
that he was the only Allah.

Abdullah- - Yikes, my family and friends are going to find out I was right!

Muslim- Yes, al-humdulillah we are Muslim and Allah taught us the truth!

Abdullah- That is great!

Muslim- Well, Prophet Muhammad said the Arafaah is the most important part of Hajj. How about
everyone say silently- I am sorry to Allah for anything I did ask Him to forgive you.

Pray

Muslim- We pray until sunset and then we can leave to go to sleep. Are you tired from the long Day
of Standing?

Abdullah- Yeah, yawn.

Muslim- Well,  we are going on another trip!

Abdullah- Where?

Muslim- To Muzdelifah!

Labayk!

Muzdalifa

Abdullah-  I am soooo tired.

Muslim- Here the pilgrims say their prayers at a Masjid where Prophet Muhammad  prayed “There is
no god but Allah & Allah is Greater” (Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah and Allaahu Akbar), and made dua until sun
has actually risen. Muslims rest here for awhile and then head for Mina, again.

Abdullah-  - Are we going anywhere special?

Muslim- First we have to go fast through the valley of Muhssar.  It was the place where the People of
the Elephant came to destroy the Ka’bah. But Allah sent birds to help.

Abdullah- Those tiny birds beat those big elephants?

Muslim- Yep

Abdullah- But how could that be?

Muslim- With Allah’s help everything is possible.

Abdullah-  I gotta go home and read that story!

Muslim- Before we leave we gotta do something.

Abdullah- What?

Muslim- Collect pebbles.

Abdullah- How many ?

Muslim- In real Hajj you need at least 21, 7 for each pillar. But today I just want you to get 1 for each
pillar. That means 3!

Abdullah- What are we going to do with them?

Muslim- You will see

Labayk!

Jamarat

Muslim- Here we are! We are at the Jamarat- the three pillars at Mina.

Abdullah-  What do we do here?

Muslim-  Prophet Muhammad  gave another sermon here and in this sermon he told the Muslim’s to
follow Allah’s  word in the Qu’ran.

Abdullah- Did something special happen here?

Muslim-  There are different stories on how this rite of pilgrimage came about. Some say it
represents the devil tempting Prophet Ibrahim and tried to stop him from following Allah’s orders to
sacrifice Ismael. Other traditions say that when Angel Jibriel took Prophet Ibrahim to show him the
rituals of pilgrimage, Satan blocked their way.  Prophet Ibrahim  threw seven stones at the devil
announcing that Allah is greater and the devil disappeared. When Angel Jibriel showed Prophet
Muhammad the rituals of Hajj -the devil tried to stop him from performing these rites, too.

Abdullah- What do pilgrims do?

Muslim-  Repeating what Angel Jibriel taught us to say- we throw seven pebbles at each pillar saying
“In the name of Allah, Allah is greater.”  Greater than what? Greater than anything.

Muslim- Is everyone ready? Let’s try it!

Throw pebbles @ Jumarats

EID

Muslim- Do you no we are almost finished showing you all the stations of the Hajj?

Abdullah- Wow.  Now we can celebrate! what about Eid??

Muslim-  Eid ul-Adha is celebrated by Muslims all over the world every year by remembering Prophet
Ibrahim   and his son Ismael’s test. Allah says: “And know that your possessions and children are a
test.” It was the ultimate test. Prophet Ibrahim ‘s willingness to sacrifice his son, for the sake of Allah,
proved he loved Allah and was obedient.

Abdullah-  What???? Prophet Ibrahim  killed his son?

Muslim-  Let me tell you the story... everyone sit down... Prophet Ibrahim had a dream and he had to
tell his son. “I am here to sacrifice you with my hands.”

Abdullah-  What does sacrifice mean?

Muslim-  Kill. He put himself in Allah’s trust and said “Ismael, I had a dream I was slaughtering you.”
Ismael realized what his father was going thru and he tried to make his father feel better.
He said  “Father obey Allah and do not hesitate to do what Allah says.   I will also obey and
with Allah’s help will be able to tolerate it.”
Prophet Ibrahim  put the knife to Ishmael’s throat and tried to slash it as quickly as possible.
But the knife would not cut! Angrily he threw the it away! Full of fear, he asked “Am I not his father?”
He picked up the knife again.  Right before Prophet Ibrahim  cut his son’s throat, a ram suddenly
appeared. Angel Jibriel brought  a message from Allah. “Oh Ibrahim, Allah does not want you to
sacrifice Ismael. This sheep is sent to you as his ransom. You have carried out the order! Allah is
Great!”

Abdullah- Phew... so he didn’t really kill his kid?

Muslim- No, but Prophet Ibrahim  was willing to do anything- Allah said to do.

Abdullah- Wow that is tough. I am very proud of Prophet Ibrahim .

Muslim- Yep, this story of a Father & Son, teaches us, that they would give up everything for Allah’s
sake. The Pilgrim’s remember this during Hajj and do a special rite.

Abdullah- I have a scary question. During the Hajj we do what the Prophet’s did.... what do we do for
this station?

Muslim- Muslims do not do human sacrifices. The idea of pleasing God by killing the life of another -
is not in Islam.

Abdullah-  Yay! I like being a Muslim.

Muslim- But we do, do a sacrifice!

Abdullah- What????

Muslim- Except we only kill animals that we are going to eat we are kind about it.

Abdullah- What?????

Muslim- The sacrifice is a promise by the pilgrim that he will kill only for food. Ud thay ah, commonly
known as Qurbani, means slaughter in the name of Allah.  It is an act of worship by acknowledging
and thanking Allah for our food.  We also give the meat in charity.

Abdullah- How do we do that?

Muslim-  Muslims do not keep all the meat from the animal. After Eid prayer, by one of Allah’s
commandments, we split our meat in three parts. We than give each part to our neighbors, relatives
and those who are poor. It teaches us to share our valuable food with everyone.

Abdullah- I like that!

Muslim- Absolutely! During the last three days of Hajj, days of Tashreeq- the drying of the meat-
Muslims complete their Hajj by performing rites of worship that reminds them of Allah.

As the meat is being prepared to give to the poor:

The pilgrims remember the rites of their Hajj and try to be better Muslims.
They think of their families back home and pray for them.
They visit the Ka’bah for a farewell prayer and to think about the lives of the Prophets who
         built it.
Many go back to the mountains of Safa and Marwa to think about Hajar’s struggle and her
faith in Allah.  They drink the water of Zam Zam and ask Allah to heal them.
They remember their Day of Standing on Mount Arafaah.
They stone the pillars thinking of their enemies and they pray that they will pass the tests that
         Allah will give them.

When their Hajj is finished, the men shave their head and the women clip their hair and
everyone removes  their clothes of Ihram and put on their regular clothes.

It is a celebration of pure beginnings. Prophet Muhammad  said  “He who performs Hajj with no
obscenity or evil practices will come out as a newly born baby free from all sins.”

Abdullah- Wow thanks for telling us all about Hajj.

Muslim- Thanks for coming. If you want there is a table over there of stuff you can look at, play or
color! Remember the most important message of Hajj is.

Abdullah-  There is only one God and it is Allah swt !!
