I am on to my next project!

This one would be geered to the teenagers and young adults. I would like your opinion on it.

I was thinking of doing the story of Isra & Miraj. There are alot of scary parts, in the different levels of hell/ of sins.

Many of us, reverts grew up with tours of fabricated haunted houses during Halloween time.  And were scared 'poop'less!

What do you think? Having the backbiting section, the riba, etc...? Has anyone ever done something like this.. or is it too horrific? Something like this is really out of my "comfort zone,"  and I would have to hand it over to someone else...

Do you think the teeanagers would get into doing this?

Assalamu'alaikum :-)

Kathy, are you familiar with the game, Fantastic Journey?

There is this camp that we organised, in which we combined aspects of the game Fantastic Journey, in which the partciiants went through a journey and various obstacles. They were blind folded, and in a single file, were brought through many stations. These stations, can be up to your own creativity.

In the camp, the theme of the Fantastic Journey was "In the Footsteps of the Prophet".. so, we selected some incidents in the sirah such as the Taif incident, the Hijrah incident when he [saw] was in the cave with Abu Bakr etc. And we enact it.. well.. somewot..

Like for example, they were being brought to the Taif Station, and they would have to go through a "tunnel" wich we made up of chairs and desks.. adn we hit them with scrunched up wet newspaper. And along the way, they have to recite the takbir. Its  a very messy game, though. But a lot of fun.. adn it brought tears to many, mashaALlah. After going through otehr stations, the last station a "cave" (ie. a darkened cold classroom), and we played a tape asking them to reflect on teh Prophet's life, his sacrifices and our lives as Muslims. Along eash station, there would be a debrief,  for abt 5 minutes on the lessons behind such games.

So, wot we need is a large space.. the bigger the better.. especially if U have slopes and hills and staircases, and little drains... or you can make your own "barriers". We've done this before in a school compund and at Islamic Foundation at Markfield. Or in a big building. It doesn't matter. We can do so many things with creativity, inshaALlah.

This game can also be a confidence building game. I remembered I particpated once, and I have to jump, blind folded, from abt 8-9 feet high height. That was, mashaALlah... amazing.

Anyways, back to your Isra' mi'raj.. maybe you can co-opt this game to fit some incidents in ISra' Mi'raj. Get them blind folded, and walk, passing on many stations.. along the way, U can say... "O look, we r gonna cross a river.. jump as far as U can.. ".. of course, its not a river.. U just pretend. and it would take confindence for some to actually make a big leap. U can even take one by one, and run holding their hansd, as fast as you can, to another spot... still blindfolded etc.. basically, the lesson is that  throughout the journey.. there is always a guide, things unknown etc. But who is our guide in our life? Sometimes, we do not understand things and is not able to see things clearly, adn when we do not have knowledge but when sight is given to us, we became more confident and conscious with wot is around us and the things we do. This can be related to taqwa. One reason why some people have low iman and taqwa, is when they are not able to know and is conscious of who Allah is in their life.

Then, perhaps, U may want them to go to the "haunted" house ;)

I think wot would be a nice closure is to relate to them the significance of prayers in Isra' Mi'raj. That the commandment of prayers is directly revealed from ALlah to Rasulullah [saw], unlike many other obligations that we do. One of the points that U can drum is... is that solat purifies a person and shapes his character, and prevents him from doing mungkar...and hence, the things that they went through in previous stations (eg. makeshift hell replica). ANd hence, it is a blessing that Allah is merciful, and has provided us with such a great gift to draw closer to him through solat.

Thing is, I was thinking if this activity can make them draw closer to ALlah, without the overemphasising the hell fear factor. Instead, it emphasises on the building up of taqwa.

If I've not being clear, pls do tell me... its difficult explaining the game through writing.

Allahua'lam :-)
