[slm] every1

Am really hoping some1 can help me with this.  I'd like to do a masters course in counselling psychology, and have spent my wohle life in western institutes.  I really feel like learning Islamic psychological aspects too, and so have been searching on the net.  The only course that I have found is offered at the International Islamic Univseity Malaysia.

Although it's debatable as to whether may parents would allow me to go halfway across the world to study, I was really excited by the prospect.  However, I've been told by the university that at examination times, sisters are not allowed to wear hijaab.

As you can imagine that really shocked me.  I'm now thinking if I really want to go there.  I cannot believe that they said that, and they said this was because hijaab is not obligatory (!!!).  And this is coming from a so-called 'Islamic' uni.  I understand that the topic of hijaab is debatable, but surely if a sis feels it's her right to wear it, then they can't force her to take it off?

Anyway, I'd like to know if anybody knows anything about this uni, and if it's worth me going there.  If I was to go I'd put up a fight about wearing the hijaab, subhan'Allaah am still amazed by what they said.

Also, does anyone know  of any other 'good' unis, absolutely anywhere in the world, that offer counselling psychology as a masters with Islamic aspects.

I'd be so grateful for any help/advice anyone can give me.  Thanks.

Salam,

Hmm..first time I ever heard that.

Students are allowed to wear hijab AND niqab (face veil) at the univeristy. I believe that there's a rules that requires the female student wearing NIQAB to have their niqab off during exam for identification purpose.

There's never a case of  prohibiting the students from wearing hijab. The students (Muslim or non Muslim) are required to wear hijab all the time at the university. And there's an unwrriten rules, that you'll get somekind of warning if you were found outside the university not wearing your hijab (apply to Muslim only).

If you choose to study there, I have a few friends currently working or studying at the uni. have been to the university a number of time, and it is a beautiful campus. I used to live abt 20mins away from the university.

As for the course, I have a friend who will probably continue to do his graduate study in Psychology there. He hasn't started, so I guess he can't comment yet.

Wallahualam.

Salaam, thank u so much!!  I wasn't sure if any1 was going to reply, so really appreciate it.  Thanks for ur comment...I guess what it could be is that they probably do mean niqaab then, it's just that I read it was the hijaab they were talking about, and so when I enquired I asked about hijaab, and the admin person replied by using the word hijaab and not niqaab.  I did actually wonder if maybe we had misunderstood each other,  I guess we should have clarified.

Ok thank u though.  I'm going to enquire more about it.  Would u by any chance know anything about their accomodation for sisters?  I know am asking a bit too much now, but it would be so cool to hear from 'real' ppl, rather than read whats on the net, and hear just solely from the uni.

 Wa salaam
