Wa'alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullah,
halal places that I can eat/buy food
Halal places to buy:

1. Shahi Foods.
2. World Halal market.
3. Asian Grocery.
4. Madeenah halal market.

First 3 are located on Lamar Blvd. (one of the most famous streets in Austin). The last one is located close to intersection of Lamar and highway 180.

          Halal places to eat:

1. Shalimar restaurant (located close to intersection of Lamar and Rundberg).
2. Tandoori Palace (very close to Shalimar rest.)
3. Madeenah halal market (they have a restaurant too, other than the market).
4. Kismet cafe (located in Austin downtown).
5. Austin Gourmet (located on Riverside).

All the above 'claim' to be halal, but the Muslim community here is quite divided on this issue of halal meat.  People here have their own definitions of 'halal', so u might wanna double check with the owners before u buy anything by asking them what is 'their' definition of halal and see if it complies with that of urs :)
Also abt the masjid.
1. Manor mosque (run by the people, all Arabs, who also represent ICGA--------> Islamic Community of Greater Austin). Most of the Arabs go to this mosque. Its also the biggest mosque of Austin.

2. Downtown/Nueces mosque (also run by ICGA). Its the oldest/first mosque of Austin. Most of the peeople who come here are students, since its located on University of Texas, Austin's campus.

         Their website: www.austinmosque.org

3. North Austin Muslim Community Center (NAMCC). Run by the desis (Pakistanis, Indian, Bangladeshis). Their website: www.northaustinmosque.org

4. South mosque/Masjid Ibrahim (run by the salafis). Their website: www.callerstoislam.org

There is another small city located North of Austin known as Round Rock. They have recently opened a new musalla. Its run by the tableeghi jama'ah people. They don't have a website now, and I don't have their physical address, but I can post later. Lemme know if u need that.
And how's the weather in March?
Overall, Texas's weather is  very unpredictibe. I would say its neither too hot nor too cold in March, but good thing is to have an umbrella with u all the time :). U never know, when it might start raining.

Feel free to put forward any other queries, InshaAllah.

Wassalam.

[slm],

Just to add, driving there is a nightmare if you are new. The roads are very confusing, at least thats how it seemed to me, so have your maps and keep the numbers of people you can call in case you get lost ready ;-).
