OK, here goes my formal introduction after being bugged by a certain Madinat moderator about it... hehe ;)

I've seen this site before. I'm not the "online-savvy" type of person and have never paid much attention to message boards; the most interaction online I'd have is talking with friends I know on AIM. But after registering myself here and seeing the different people and the quality interaction that goes on here, I thought this might be a worthwhile experience.

My real name is Ridwan, but you guys can call me Abu Sashimi ;D (that's what my friend calls me because of my love for Sashimi--a Japanese delicacy of assorted raw fish. I'm 23 years old (going to be 24 soon In Sha Allah). Living in NYC, working as a math teacher in a middle school in the South Bronx and doing my Masters in Math Education.

Teaching full time and going to school full time is basically most of my life at the moment. But on my spare time, I also teach Math and English at a Madrasa in upstate NY. There's alot of stuff to do here in NYC. Sometimes I like to hang out with friends in Muslim neighborhoods in Brooklyn. I like to skate, surf, run and swim; individual sports more than group sports. I'm learning Kung Fu from a friend.

I'm also into art, I used to do a lot of life illustrations and paintings but had to stop that. Now I'm into calligraphy, photography, and some "freelance" graphic design and print work. I'd like to get more into web design, I think it's awesome what you guys have started here! I'm also into poetry, and in NYC the open-mic and freestyle-poetry scene is pretty happening. I'm not a poet, but I would like to be able to express myself more with words, written and spoken.

Anyway, that's more than an intrroduction and perhaps more than what you guys need to know! hehe :-[ Anyway, I think it's great that you guys are able to set up this message board and the jannah.org website. It's a nice niche on the net where you can be a part of a "live" community, when some of us live far away from other muslims. Sometimes at work I'd sneak a peek here during my preps hehe, just to see if there's any interesting topics ;D

I hope I can be of some benefit to the Madinat community as I'm sure it has been to many of its members In Sha Allah.

Al-Hamdu Lillah Jazakum Allah Khayra. Fi Amanillah.  ;)
