Need your help and advice plz. Do any one knows something about Sufizm. It is called zikr (zikr Allah) as well. Can I start it with the help of some e.pal,But the problem is there is no female teacher available on net as far as I know.Is it suitable for me to join them? Some one has any experience in this regard? I have heard that its really a joy to join them coz zikr Allah is an enjoyable experience. They will simply tell zikr according to Shariah and there is no harm in doing so?? someone plz help.

Sister,

As this topic is very complex and controversial, It's probably a good idea if you found a knowledgable imam or teacher where you are to ask about these things, inshaAllah :)

Assalamu 'alaikum.

Less controvercial is Tazkiya or Tasawuuf -- I think you can find online courses and/or
lectures from islamicity.com.

Of course, Jannah is right in saying that it's best to learn from a teacher -- or to ask
one ;)

If you're just interested in the poetry (the beautiful expression of the mystical
experience...zikr Allah *Subhanna wa ta'ala* through the written language) -- the local library
or bookstore should have books (ie: essential Sufism).  But sufism really is an
Orientalist term

Is there any difference between tazkiya, tasawuf or sufizm?? are they not the same ?

I checked islamicity.com but there was nothing about this subject ::)

Can you refer some more for online membership or to get more info ??

Assalamu alaikum.

Imam Mokhtar Maghraoui's 5 part series on Tazkiya (Purification of the Soul)

There are subtle differences (ie: Tasawuuf is the canopy, under which tazkiya, dhikr, and
other processes follow).  Again, it's best to find an imam or teacher to guide or direct
you to more information.

Or hold a dhikr party!  Call a bunch of sisters together, and recite the 99 names of
Allah, or the takbirat...learn dua'as (Subhan'Allah, wal-hamduilillah, wa La illaha illa
Allah, wallahu Akbar...).  Hold an itikhaf.  There are plenty of ways to remember God without
a teacher.  Insha'Allah you will be able to find that peace of heart!

Wasalaam.

as salaamu alaykum,

tazkiya - purification.  general term referring to purification of the heart and the self from diseases like greed, anger, love of wealth, etc and discipline of carnal pleasures like sleep, sex, food.

tassawuf - the study of the spiritual elements of the human being [the spirit, the self, the heart, etc] and their purification through worship and discipline.

sufism - an anglicized form of the word tassawuf.  sometimes translated as mysticism or gnosticism.

wAllahu a'lam.

wasalaamu alaykum :-)
