I read this article and thought I would share it here. We should all know the achievements of the past so that we can base a vision for the future off it. Sometimes I feel that nowadays science is progressing for the wrong reasons. Companies put billions into their R&D in the hope of making it first to market and cashing in. Most cutting edge research is funded by defense so that they are ahead in the arms rat-race. There is little or no humanitarian concern as far as research is concerned. It's mostly about making dollars. However, in sharp contrast to this, Muslim innovators in the past researched and invented to discover the signs of Allah. The end discovery or invention was almost not their main goal and seemed to be a by-product!

Ok enough of my ramblings, here's the URL:

PS: Muhammad Asad has an excellent discussion on the rise and decline of muslim science in Road to Mecca. I wish I had a copy of it to quote from.
