Salaam, I was wondering if it matters at all if a woman has her period when the marriage ceremony is performed (assuming it will not be in a mosque). Thank you very much! Wassalaam |

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah :) Dear Anon, Hope to share something which I have learnt. Of course, if U need more enquiries, its best that U ask from a person knowledgable in the deen, like an imam or other scholars in your community. From wot I have learnt... no, it does not matter. Periods do not invalidate or nullify a marriage. There has been no examples from the Qur'an or Sunnah which prohibits a woman from marrying during her periods. The conditions of a marriage includes the following: 1) A man 2) A woman 3) The woman's wali 4) Witnesses (eg 2 male witnesses) 5) The Ijab-kabul (offer & acceptance - which includes the mahr etc) If such general conditions are met, then, the marriage is valid, inshaAllah. There are other conditions which prohibit marriages.. but having normal periods is not one of them. However, if the woman does have the periods, then she would not be able to perform the sunnah prayer after nikah. Allahua'lam :-) |

Wa'alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullah,
The conditions of a marriage includes the following: 1) A man 2) A woman 3) The woman's wali 4) Witnesses (eg 2 male witnesses) 5) The Ijab-kabul (offer & acceptance - which includes the mahr etc) If such general conditions are met, then, the marriage is valid, inshaAllah
Just wanted to make a quick minor correction here. The Hanafi mazhab doesn't require a woman to have a wali as a condition for the marriage to take place and be valid. Wallahu Ta'ala A'lam. Wassalam. |
