I don't know the answer to your question. but i just want to give you an adivse. if you can't afford the full insurance coverage, then at least have a liability coverage. Liability's cheaper.

hit 2-3 cars? sounds to me you should be hiring a lawyer. or at least contact one to see what your options are. i have been in to accidents, none my fault alhamdulillah, but i hired a lawyer because the insurance compaines were were not covering all the costs involved with the car damgage and rental stuff. so many people told me so many things, but i put my trust in the lawyer rather than people's opinions. cuz the lawyer knows the law, that's what he's there for... so get a lawyer! some lawyers do free consultations.

May Allah make it easy on you. Ameen
ps. never again do that. at least get liability coverage! :)

It's illegal to drive a car in texas without having liability insurance.

Isn't that the case all over the US?

Were any of the people hurt, from what you could tell?

The fact is, even if you don’t have liability coverage (law here in British Columbia, too), the injured parties can try to come after you for damages through the courts. If the investigation determines you were 100% at fault, you will be responsible for damages. This will probably be broken down to three or four areas:

*      Property
*      Medical
*      Loss of wages
*      Pain and suffering

Hopefully, the other drivers had insurance, which will cover most of these losses. The insurance companies may choose to come after you for damages. I presume that you don’t have a lot of money; otherwise you would have had insurance. Hopefully, you aren’t a minor either (otherwise they can go after your guardians). If you have little to no assets, many insurance companies will not see it as worth the time and money to try and squeeze blood out of a rock. In the worst-case scenario, you may be found liable (in court) of damages that you may just find are insurmountable. In this case, you could look into personal bankruptcy. Lot’s of legal options available to both the plaintiff and defendant.

In any case, whoever said you should talk to a lawyer is probably right, but better, make good use of this wonderful invention called the internet, and learn as much as possible about your personal legal situation, and run through all the possibilities. Become an expert! The more you know, the better prepared you’ll be to handle anything thrown at you.

As far as being thrown in jail, I don’t think that a car accident like the one you described would ever be considered criminal. Neither is the innability to pay (again, look into bankruptcy laws for your State- pros and cons). In other words, you didn’t break criminal law, so no jail time. At least, not in North America. One thing: get yourself a good bike, and get comfortable riding. That, or a bus pass…because driving may no longer be an option for you!

Good luck!
