World cup fever

The Cricket World cup will no doubt ignite nationalist passions amongst the Pakistani community. To some cricket is more than just sport, the national dignity will be considered to be on the line. Clearly the bribery and betting scandals of the late 1990's has not changed people’s attitudes towards the game which is still the national sport.

Such people though would be foolish to put all their hopes on the Cricket team. For in reality the performance of the cricket squad has no impact on the nation’s status. Rather only the government’s performance has been responsible for the loss of dignity, as ruling by kufr and being subservient to America has not yielded any positive result. However, it will not be surprising to see that if the cricket team does well the government will bolster the importance of their success, thus diverting the people’s attention from the real problems back at home.

Adding insult to injury, Pakistan will be playing against countries commit aggression against it and also against other Muslim countries as well. Ironically Pakistan will be up against both India and England, countries which rely on the tour to divert the Muslims attention from the brutality they inflict upon them in other parts of the world.

Rather than boycott Zimbabwe the Muslims should boycott all Colonialist games and deal with their aggressors through the implementation of Islam at  home and Jihaad abroad.

don't understand at all how Pakistan is more *islamic* than India is? They both share the same set of problems and have one very special thing in common: enemity to each other benefitting neither.  8)

India is not an Islamic country.  Pakistan is the only country in the world
that was formed FOR Islam.  It is only one of two countries that was formed in the name of
religion (the other one being Israel.)

When you say you don't see how Pakistan is more of an Islamic country than India...I
think you misunderstood what the article was suggesting.  It is definitely wrong to say that
Pakistani Muslims are more islamic than Indian Muslims, but...as a country, as a
population, India is definitely not Islamic.  It's a hindu country, I don't think anyone can deny
that, yeah?

Now let's not get into the politics of the discussion.  People on both sides of the
border tend to be extremely touchy on the issue, and frankly speaking, it's irrelevant.

I must agree with the article though.  If you look at the formation of Pakistan in a
historical fashion, it instills a lot of Islamic pride in me, as a Muslim, and secondarily as
a Pakistani.  Tens of thousands of people were killed so that the Muslims of South Asia
could have a home, and could escape the extreme discrimination that is prevalent in India
to this day.

When Pakistani people forget this fact, and start spending time making duaa for something
as trivial as cricket, it is quite sad.  It gets so bad that people start keeping fasts,
reading nawafil prayers, and (very wrongly) giving "daiks" making "manats"...it's wrong.
People are preparing for war in Iraq.  In light of that fact, I'm happy that they lost.
On to more important things.

No offence intended to anyone.

India is not a Hindu country. Officially, its a SECULAR state. 81% of the total population of India is Hindus, no doubt, and majority of its rulers are Hindus, but other religious minorities also have part in every aspect of running the country. To give u an example, currently, the Chief of State, A.P.J Abdul Kalam is a Muslim, who also happens to be the top missile scientist of India.

Wassalam.
