PICKET ZIONIST M & S

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s Off To a Picket We Go……..

The weather is getting warmer and the temperature is rising. The War in Iraq looms and the Palestinians are about to get a kicking from Israel’s most right wing government to date. (There are no Hawks and Doves in Israel’s major political parties, just Hawks and Vultures). The Muslims in Gujarat are being protected from Hindu extremism by a Hindu extremist government, and up and down the UK Islamphobia is on the rise and being unchallenged.

Well, spring is near and my mind is troubled not only by the immediacy of the above but by the shear fact that I’m about to go on my own personal Jihad. For three years I have attended pickets outside Marks and Spencer and Selfridges. And during the summer I will be outside again. Man, am I not looking forward to it.

Marks and Spencer, a bastion of Zionist support of Israel, was picketed month in and month out by a handful of Muslims, Socialists from Fight Racism Fight Imperialism and two Jewish pensioners from the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign. For two years we stood there every Saturday in the winter and in the summer wasting our weekends trying to fight the Israeli propaganda machine. I know I failed because my objective was not only to inform the public but also to stigmatise Marks and Spencer support for Israel within the Muslim community and to activate Muslims in joining and creating their own Pickets.

Muslims kept buying from M&S and Muslims didn’t turn up to the pickets, except for some brave Iraqi girls. We failed, the Muslim’s failed, the upshot is that M&S continues to support Israel, ensuring the Palestinian quest for justice fails.

Thinking strategically MPAC said to the Muslims “Don’t picket in the cold we can use our time more effectively and try to rally support in the summer!” Well that was the cunning plan. I’m not sure it will work I have a horrible feeling I’m going to be on my own demoralised, bullied and watching a beautiful day drift by whilst Muslims not only walk straight by me into M&S but ignore the fact that I’m getting harassed by Zionists.

This is not a pleasant thought. I can’t help but think; how much will it cost to get the leaflets, and how much can we afford? Can I stick it out week in and week out? I know my Iman needs to be strengthened but doesn’t all of ours?

I have nothing but admiration for the human rights activist who stands out side parliament denouncing an attack on Iraq day in and day out. I have nothing but admiration for the Socialist who turned up and supported a cause for nothing but human justice and I have nothing but admiration for the Jewish people, who made a stand against their own people’s injustice towards another. And I have nothing but pride for the sisters who spent their summer trying to help the unfortunate.

Well if these non-Muslims can make a stand so can I. If the Jewish pensioner can stand up against young Zionist thugs, I can stand up against Muslim apathy and thugs. If they can inspire me then maybe they can inspire you. Don’t let the fight be fought while you pretend it doesn’t concern you. We are fighting a media war where Muslims are the victims and as such the casualty of gradual propaganda will be you.

Reclaim your rights as a citizen.

Reclaim your rights as a Muslim.

Most of all Reclaim Palestine.
