Salam, I have a Chinese friend that was born into a Muslim family and alhamudulillah still considers herself a Muslim but knows very little about the faith and what she knows is an Islam tainted with Chinese traditions and superstitions. Unfortunately she has this impression that Islam is very harsh and inflexible and I can't blame her because most of her knowledge of Islam is limited to what is prohibited and the punishment for it. But alhamdulillah she has expressed a sincere interest to learn more about Islam and she wants to learn how to pray and I promised her I would help her find resources. I need a website that teaches how to pray with a good clear transliteration of all the supplications we say in the prayer. If there is not a website then can someone recommend a good book. I used to have this really excellent booklet on salah; it was so clear and easy to follow and the transliteration was not difficult to read. I always used to photo copy it for new Muslims but I can't seem to find it anywhere and I can't remember where I got it from. Can't even remember the author. Also I need a lucid and comprehensive introduction to Islam. Although she communicates in English well it is not her first langauge and every now and then she needs to look up a word she is not familiar with. So it's important the book is not too complicated so that it would not discourage her. I know the "Idiots guide to Islam" has been recommended here several times. Would this book be suitable for her? I would really appreciate if someone can list the table of contents for me. If any of you know of any other books that would help her please suggest them with their table of contents as well. JAK salam, meri |

[slm] I don't have the Idiot's Guide to Islam, but I have another book by the same author, Yahiya Emerick, What Islam is All About, and its great. Its intended for children from the 4th to the 6th grade, but it covers a lot of material and in an easy to read format. I highly recommend this book. Brother Yahiya knows how to write well and explain Islamic concepts. |

As-salaamu 'alaykum, Don't know if these will help, but check either of these, somewhat similar, earlier threads: http://www.jannah.org/cgi-bin/madina/YaBB.pl?board=lighthouse;action=display;num=1041741968 http://www.jannah.org/cgi-bin/madina/YaBB.pl?board=kabob;action=display;num=1044648817 |
