Asalaamu Alaikum ;-) Here's one for the computer boffins: How long do you think it would it take to download 6.7GB worth of data if you were in Europe and the information was in the US? Please outline all assumptions ;-) |

[wlm] Hmm.. theoretically one would think it should be negligible where the data resides? The biggest variable would be your connection, traffic to that server at that time and probably traffic on the backbone it's traveling on. If I was downloading something from Europe at 6 gigs on a cable modem it would take...probably about 1 meg/minute which would be a few days for those gigs :) Why not get someone to burn the stuff onto CD and then send it to u? |

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)
Scientists have set a new internet speed record by transferring 6.7 gigabytes of data across 10,978 kilometres (6,800 miles), from Sunnyvale in the US to Amsterdam in Holland, in less than one minute
Wow Jaihoon must have set a new record himself for invesigative speed ;-) |

[slm] Scientists have also failed to mention that these types of experiments typically involved what are called "point to point" links. Imagine throwing that data where it would have to be routed through "real" Internet traffic. But yeah, as the bandwidth increases, stuff like 6GB will be a piece of cake to push. I just read an article saying they are test out accessing the Internet over power lines in Scotland :o |
