| [slm] Maybe you can get me past my funk with some good advice and I will see things a bit different. My community is a bit "dry." Meaning boring. For the past 10 years our Monthly Dinner's entrees have been exactly the same. Many Muslim families have stopped coming, because the food is too spicy hot to consume. I even hate to go, but I do it for my hubby and eat after. We have a new president and his wife is in charge of the dinners. She came up with a great idea. We would have a year of International Dinners. Meaning that every month we would do a different type of dinner. Like Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Somalian, Pakistinian, etc... So notices, e-mail etc have been sent out. They, are boycotting it! >:( |

| [slm] Why??? I think its a great idea to represent muslims from all parts of the world! Isnt the whole point of it meant to be to educate people to interact and accept other cultures? Perhaps you or the Presidents wife can send out a counter-email explaining the beneifts of it? [wlm] :-* |

| [color=blue] bismillah.. assalamu alaikum, here is an idea... have a menu of 2-3 items, to please all tastes! or maybe request the caterer to make 2 versions of the meal, a spicy one and a mild ... i understand your frustration, when it comes down to food, some ethnicities consider all "other" foods uneatable ! and maybe run something in parallel, kinda of info sessions on health in general, and sneak in the harms of spicy food .... the alternative, make a statement and boycot their events until they are ready to accomodate you! take care wassalam [/color] |
