| [slm] My first posting, so I hope to be forgiven for posting in the wrong place..insha'Allah :) Anywhos...my issue is this...well its not really an issue issue more of an extending of an invitation for those who have the ability to participate... see I'm a Hunter College student (New York, New York) and a member of the MSA there, we (MSA) were insha'Allah planning for an event this coming April that dealt with women in Islam, our working title is "An-Nisaa, A Celebration of The Woman in Islam" It's being planned as a two-part event that would address Muslims and non-Muslims alike, the first part would deal with the formidable women in Islam of the Past, Khadijah (RA), Aisha (RA), Fatima (RA), etc etc. Notable speakers insha'Allah would speak about the lives and influence of these women. The second part would consist of an open-mic sort of thing, where Present day Sisters/Brothers would voice themselves through poetry, story-telling, brief speeches, recitation of ayahs, hadiths that are relevant to Muslimahs... So basically we're looking for Muslims who are willing to participate in such an event insha'Allah...and of course I'm open to any other ideas if anyone would like to share :) Shukran for your consideration and for getting through this long posting. | as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah, Sr. Ingrid Mattson is not too far from the city, I think she would be an awesome speaker to have on Muslim women. Also I know that Sr. Saraji Umm Zaid lives in the city.. she is an amazing poet that would really bring light to your open mic event.
