as salaamu alaykum, I didn't see a post on this so I just wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow (Thursday) is the Day of Ashura .. a really blessed day to fast... Rasulullah [saw] said of it, "It expiates the sins of the preceding year." | [slm] alhamdulillah, i fasted today, but i read that Muslims are required to fast this day and one other as well. does anyone know whether it matters if it was the day before or after? (i know its kinda late to be asking but just to be sure.... :) ) |

(i know its kinda late to be asking but just to be sure.... ) [/quote] The link posted by sis. se7en has the Ahadeeth mentioning the recommendation of fasting on 9th and 10th of Muharram. However, I have heard 2 different opinions. One is that u should fast 9th and 10th of Muharram only as that is specified in the ahadeeth and u shouldn't fast 11th of Muharram in case u missed 9th of Muharram. The other opinion, however, says that u CAN fast on 11th of Muharram if u missed the 9th of Muharram since the goal is to be different from Jews who fast only one day, that is, 10th of Muharram. Wallahu Ta'ala A'lam. Talk to ur local Imam or somebody more knowledgable in ur community before u decide to do anything InshaAllah. Wassalam. |
