This is just not my year

slm,

Sisters ever have one of those years when you always seem to get your period at the wrong
time. I'm having one of those years.:(

I missed the last five days of Ramadan and I missed Eid al Fitr prayer

I missed Arafat and I missed Eid Al Adha prayer

Now when I was looking forward to fasting for Ashura I miss that too. I got my period two
days before Ashura. I feel so spiritually lacking. I hope next year is better.

But you had the intention to fast all those days right?  And pray the Eid prayers?  It's great!  It's all been written down as though you'd done all those things!  It's amazing, we're SO lucky that Allah Ta'ala gives us the thawab for the things we intend to do even if we're unable!
If you feel spiritually lacking because of having missed those days, try to make up for it by reading more Qur'an and making more dhikr, and asking Allah to help you in remembering Him, in thanking Him, and in worshipping him beautifully.

This is an amazing thing that happens to us.  I remember sitting in the "cattle pen"... the one that is filled with women as if we are wearing a big "P" on our shoulders, for so many Eids in a row. And like you, was unable to fast the last couple of days of Ramadan...which is so anti climatic!

One year I made a dua and asked Allah swt to releive me of this.... and it never happened again!

Asslamu alykum,

As siter M.F said do more dhikr and extra ibadaat .. waking up for tahujjad and fasting on tuesdays and thrus :)  I think all of us have times when we feel so distant from Allah(swt) and that is because we can push ourselves harder to do more insha'Allah :)

Okay sister...I feel your pain.  I am in the SAME boat.  And now I am officially depressed.  Honestly, it makes me so angry.  Try topping that up with a mood swing.

Oh well.

Wasalaam.

Thanks!  I didn't know that!  But this raises a question for me.  Missed fast days need to made up later in the year, right?  So women, when they make up those fast days missed due to menstrual flow, (given they had the intention to fast, were it not "that time of the month") are getting the "same" fast recorded twice?

This may be an English play on words... need an arabic translater of the hadith here!

When fertile women start the Month of Ramadan we make our intention to fast, knowing that there will be a time period we won't be fasting.

Also every night we make the intention to fast. So in essence there would only be one day that we make an intention and then not fast because we would not make this intention the night before while in our menses.

On the other hand, Allah swt is so generous... it just may be true! If you think about it...for all the pain... there may be some sin forgiving also!

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah :)

Dear sis...

I can understand, the heaviness and sadness... InshaALlah, the Knower of all Hearts, feel with us and cry with us. Sometimes, I did ask... Y would Allah refuse me something, when all I want is to draw closer to Him.

And I found something.. that perhaps, I would not find, if Allah has not given us, this blessing, mashaAllah....

And that is the sweetness of Longing... the sweetness of wanting...
for, that, is a ni'mah itself as longing and missing something deeply cannot be present without its absence.

And Allah knows in each of our hearts... who knows, with this longing we draw much closer to Him instead. We strive, harder, during the days, when we're free from our menses, instead... to give us enough stock and strength during the days, when we will part from our ibadah... gaining momentum and strength after strength each month. Allahua'lam.

About the Eid prayers... I'd recommend that U still go for the prayers... not to pray, but to listen to the khutbah and recite the takbir, inshaAllah. U'd still feel the spirit of those days, inshaAllah :)

Here's something from Rumi.. that he manages to capture in his poepry. So smile, sister... Allah never forgets nor forsakes those who wishes to be with Him :-)

Love Dogs

one night a man was crying,
       Allah!  Allah!

his lips grew sweet with the praising,
until a cynic said,
      "so!  i have heard you
calling out, but have you ever
gotten any response?

the man had no answer to that.
he quit praying and fell into a confused sleep.

he dreamed he saw Khidr, the guide of souls,
in a thick, green foliage.
      "why did you stop praising?"
"because i've never heard anything back."
    "this longing
you express is the return message.

the grief you cry out from
draws you toward union.

your pure sadness
that wants help
is the secret cup.

listen to the moan of a dog for its master.
that whining is the connection.

there are love dogs
no one knows the names of.

give your life
to be one of them.

Assalamu 'alaikum!

I've always wondered about this...

Does a woman only need to make up for fasts that are missed due to menstruation?  I'm
pretty sure that it is suggested that women do not have to fast when pregnant and
breast-feeding...but do you have to make up for these fasts too???

What if a woman is pregnant during Ramadhaan, spends the rest of the year
breastfeeding...becomes pregnant again at the next Ramadhaan..etc, etc... does she have to make up for
all of these missed fasts??!?!  and if she's breastfeeding for all of the suggested
time,...when is she going to make up for 30, 60, 90+ days of missed Ramadhaans?!

Wasalaam.

Per Jannah: Check with your local Imam. My understanding is :

I do know of a prolific sister who has just completed all her make up fasts. She just hit menapause!

as salaamu alaykum,
Does a woman only need to make up for fasts that are missed due to menstruation?

nope
Not sure if I understood this correctly, but a woman *does* have to make up any fasts she missed during Ramadan due to menstruation.  She doesn't have to make up the salah though.

w'Allahu a'lam.

take care

Ha ha!

And I was thinking of her word "only"... just goes to show how dangerous it is to give advice!
