naseeha on sufism

Bismillah,

I am relatively new here. But I just had to speak to some Muslims about some things I have been thinking about embarking.

I have read that originally, Sufism was a way that some Shaykhs used to use Quran and Sunnah (along with other practices) to help cure people of diseases of the Dunya (worldly life).

I am curious about this, because I, like many other Muslims unfortunately, am struggling woth my naffs in the love of Dunya. So much so, that it has driven a wedge between my self. Should I go and get all the wealth I can get? or Should I maintain being at home with my baby daughter. Both are a gokd idea! but it becomes more deeply grooved when one s tempted to have a more comfortable life, if they work.

I mean, come on, I am human. I would rather live in a bigger apartment with a bigger backyard, than where I am today. But for the Muslim woman, it is difficult. Because I am tempted by others to dangle a sheer scarf from my head so that I wouldn't look too "Extreme" as my mother put it.

But something inside of me wants to be a good muslim and a good mother and maintain being at home, and If I can, get a job at a Muslim school (as a teacher) so that I can help the Umma  ::)

Although I already know that I won't be getting paid as much as a teacher in the kaffir school system.

What a life!! Muhummad (SAW) said " Nothing will satisfy the stomach of Bani Adam except the dirt of his grave."
He  [saw] also said " If you were to give bani Adam two valleys of gold, he would wish for another." (or something to that affect  ::)

Thanks for listening Allah Jezakumm Khairan

Ummfatima (by the way  if anyone has some Hamza Yusuf recommendations on this particular subject, I would appreciate it)

UmmFatima welcome sister ahlan wa sahlan. Have a [] :)

I wish we could discuss your question on sufism here, but unfortunately since this is such a 'controversial topic' it always leads to arguments and fighting. Hence this is a closed topic here almost from the beginning.

I think perhaps it's a better idea if you speak to some knowledgable people in your area to get all the information you need.

JazakiAllahu khairan !!

PS I am leaving this thread open in case anyone wants to post some things on the other topics you brought up -- like the value of dunya, fighting against wealth, motherhood, wealth, hijab, helping the Ummah etc..

I do not think there is a contradiction between being a good muslim and wanting a nice home.  This is from Qaradawi's "Lawful and Prohibited in Islam" :

The Prophet (peace be on him) loved spaciousness in the home and
considered it as an element conducive to happiness in this life, saying, Happiness has four elements: a good wife, a
spacious house, a good neighbor, and a comfortable riding beast. (Reported by Ibn Habban in his Sahih.) He often used to pray fervently, "Our Lord, forgive me my sin,
make my house spacious, and bless me in my sustenance." He was asked, "O
Messenger of Allah, why do you supplicate so often in these words?" He replied,
"Is anything left out?" (Reported by al-Nisai and Ibn al-Sunni with a sound chain of transmitters.)

Hope this helps.

And Allah knows best.
