shia muslims music?

salam alaikum;
i am a recent revert; recently i have been to lebanon where the shia muslims were
commemorating the ash-shura (the ?martyrdom? of hussein) and for this celebration they sing
aloud songs of grief and they were selling the tapes of this music everywhere so i bought one
out of curiosity. i also bought other sunni music tapes and quran tapes, as i live in a
christian country where it is impossible to find such things.

when i came home, i listened to these tapes and i liked them; i know that islam forbids
to listen to haram music (one that is played with instruments that are not the ones
prescribed in the sunna).
before converting i liked very much to listen to music, so i missed it after; so now i
was happy to have these tapes of halal music to listen.

but then a friend of mine told me that it is a very haram thing to listen to shia songs
because they are not muslims at all and that i should get rid of it immediately and just
listen to the sunni tape; and the same thing is for sufi music.

what do u think?

(anyway i used this music just to relax my mind after studying long hours not in a
devotional way and i don?t understand the lyrics as they are in arabic).

now i would like to have your opinion:

1) what should be a sunni attitude towards shia muslims? do u consider them brothers or
kafir people?
2) what is your view towards muslim music? is it ok?

[Admin Note: Dear Sis/Bro, We really recommend you ask someone knowledgable that you trust about these issues. This is probably not the forum to bring these up as we find that the topic of music and shia vs sunni etc are not beneficial for the participants. Jazakallah khair ]
