Dawah Brochures

Finally i have the time to do something i have been wanting to do for a long time.

New brochures to give out when doing dawah. Other than public school kids, most of the age groups I seem to talk to are people in their 40's  on up.

One of the problems I had was the brochures fonts were way too small for those of us approaching and passing the bifocal race!

Give me your suggestions and concerns you had when reading these kind of things.  The subjects will be the usual kinds.

Jannah... i was searching the web for ideas and I came across your '10 most misconceptions on Islam' list. Someone had a link to it.
ehm... if I do a pamphlet on this... how heavily can I borrow from it?

salam,

You can use it of course, but the thing is would that be a good way to introduce islam?? by telling them what NOT it is...?

It might be a good idea to focus on the basics and also the similiarities between christianity and islam.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

I think there are two basic elements that really make a brochure good:

-- the content.. meaning the English is clear and proper, simple but not patronizing, and that it focuses more on the basic beliefs, values and concepts of Islam, and not the details of the practices which can be confusing to those new to Islam

-- and the aesthetics.. professional looking with nice images.

I think the Discover Islam readers are a good example of what ideal brochures should look like :)  Also, there were some nice booklets called "Understanding Islam and Muslims" that were once published by the Saudi embassy that I thought were really good.  I'm not sure if they still distribute them.

May Allah put baraka in your efforts Kathy :)

wasalaamu alaykum :-)
