Assalamu'alaikum :-)

Has anyone used this before?

Its got this ice cooler attachment that is suppose to numb the skin and lessen the pain.
I've searched under Google for reviews.. but there aren't many.  :(

Key points I'm looking out for:

1) Pain Threshold (Does it really do wot it says?)
2) Ease of use
3) Effectiveness
4) Value for money

Or do U know of a better product?

Shukran :)

Sorry *Bald* Barr, I wasn't quite sure what it was because my eyes had twisted and I thought you had posted the thread in the Naseeha Corner
and I was trying to work out why a Satin Ice Epilator would be under personal problems.  :)

Seems like this gadget has the same effect as a pot of wax. Same pain and growth rate.

my experience with epilators is that you get more ingrown hairs (yuck) and thus more bumps and scabs on your skin than with waxing.  I never used to believe that if you wax for long enough it thins out, but it actually does.

Salam :-)

Thanks sisters :-)

Well... the difference in this epilator is that it has an exfoliating head which removes dead cells and reduces ingrown hair... well that's wot it says....

I've had bad experiece with an epilator years ago too. I, only tried to use it twice. But I find it more painful than waxing. Of course, I gave that up. :P

But this one looks so tempting!  :-*
But I also don't want history to repeat itself.

[sup]Also, is it easy to use for underarms? Wax tends to cause bleeding and is not very easy and effective.[/sup]

Thanks, sisters

OK I couldn't see the picture in the link, but I beleive that's the one I have. Bought mine 3 yrs ago and must've used it, ummmmm not more than 12 times. Actually I'm not a fan of any type of hair removal. I do my arms only when I fear that the ladies in the washroom will mistake me for a bear  LOL :D

The epilator itself is OK. I bought it at a sale so got it cheaper. The ice head attachment is supposed to reduce pain, but i don't think theres much difference with or without it. In fact, I've used mine most of the times without it. It does hurt. It's easier to use on the legs than the arms coz on the legs u can stretch the skin with the other hand. Besides, its a little difficult to manipulate it with your left hand (to do the right arm). Although it says that you can use it anywhere on the body, I've never done any area beyond the elbows and knees. I would imagine it to hurt like crazy  :o, the skin is so sensitive in other places.
As for ingrown hairs, i haven't noticed any difference between epilator or sheera, I get plenty of them by any method  :(  but then again maybe i haven't compared enough times.
Another thing is you have to keep the rotor head very clean otherwise it causes little pimples to develop next time its used.

So I guess the bottom line is, if you're comfortable with your current hair removal method, forget about the epilator.

Hope that helped

I believe that pain is an inescapable part of our lives (think childbirth) but pain from epilator ? Hmmm.....

Wax is a good alternative but some friends have complained of the mess and the sore.  I have very fine hair so I only need to think of hair removal every 6 months or so.  Still, I prefer removal creams.  Yes growth rate is fast but hey...no pain :)

PS Barr, the term sunshine has been copyrighted by Maliha in terms of usage for endearment  8)

OK.. I still have a bottle of Immac Cream with a pump.. yes.. U rarely get this in Singapore.. since it has a pump... so.. consider this as a novelty ;)
I only used it once or twice. U can have it of U want  ;D

salaam sis's

now this one is just a lil bit on the embarassing side - praying that no bros are reading
it!  well, see da thing is that i have been removing hair on my upper lip by threading,
usually about twice a week.  but the problem is that i now have a slightly darker patch of
skin across my upper lip, to the point where my brother asked me today if i had been
shaving, nearly sending me to tears! :( anyone got any bright tips or tried and tested
methods of avoiding this problem, or lightening my skin tone so it blends in with the rest of
my face?!   i'll try anything at this point...well, anything within limits or course ;)
btw: what was the price on that torture gadget ?
In other websites I see it going for US$30-$79.

In SIngapore... its S$129 for a 2in1 and S$135 for a TotalCare model. I don't know how much is the Optima one, coz it seems that they don't sell it here :(

S$1 = US$1.8  .. do your calculations  ;D
anyone got any bright tips or tried and tested

Ermm.. this is not a tested method.. but how about using those skin whitening/ lightening lotion, to get even skin tones? I'm not talking abt Jolene... or the cheaper stuff.. but proper top notch market beauty products?
I need advice!!!! For someone who is abnormally hairy - what's the best way to get rid of hair permanently?? I have tried everything, but tend to scar easy with shaving etc. Oh,
I don't know wot is the hukm for permanent hair removal... but I read an advert once about permanent hair removal. They've got this hi-tech stuff, where U remove hair permanently by light. U gotta wear dark goggles, when they do this treatment to U, coz the light is really powerful. It'll just take a few painless seconds, and all the hair at the area where the light is shone to, would die.. and they kill from the roots!

But guess, how much this costs? One leg (up to knee)... S$8k!!!! And.. it does work! MashaAlalh!

But I'd rather have it cheap... and go through pain.  :(
also how to get rid of hair on stomach/chest area
Sis... do U mean... chest hair as in ... like a brother's chest hair.. or fine and soft baby hairs like on the forearms? coz.. if it's hair like a brother's chest hair.. then, I think U need to see a doctor. And for fine, soft baby hair like on the forearms.. then.. ermmm.. I dunno, never thought of it...  but pls, woteva U do...don't shave!

As for the tummy... are U referring to the line of hair below the navel? some sisters wax them.

May Allah make it easy for U, sis.. but if your hair growth is really abnormal for a female.. I do suggest that U see a doctor, inshaALlah. Take care :)

I wouldn't try lotions anywhere sensitive. I did nair on my underarms and it burnt for weeks  :'( It was painful....
Kathy you made me *blush* :o
Brothers are the worst! Sis anon don't worry about what your brother said, man! if i go down the list of some of the stuff my brothers have told me....no wonder i'm sooo sensitive  ::)
As far as bleaching creams I don't suggest using on the face, because I heard that it leads to long term skin damage. I don't know what to recommend....
Hairy sis:) Welcome to the club!
Kathy, my mama has hairy legs :o I guess i'm giving up hope of thinning out....
Does the lotion work on the "private" area? meaning the  "V" word?
yes try 4 min nair(works awesome)  and its good to use a washcloth to take off. :-[ (sis maliha maybe you took it off too late?) I know many people who use lotion and it works gr8 .. :-[oh yah Caution: dont exceed 10 min!
and for fine hair dont exceed 5 min!]

For the rest of you just shave! whats wrong w/ shaving? ::) waxing is really good for the legs (but tends to be painful) But then no pain , no gain right. hint: just use it in the thigh and shave the rest
Electrolosis is the painless permanent thingi but you hve to go a couple of sessions (i have always wanted to do it but was afraid it might be wriong in islam ::)?

By the way those little buffer things that (buff the hair off ) and are suppose to be painless, are actually painful!

[slm],

good topic!.... permanet hair removal for my face at least, i have been using lazer....its kind of expesive (75$, upperlip), but if you have abnormal hair growth, its hard elsewise. its very very very very very painful though. before lazer i used bleaching, but i had to start doing lazer, this is very embrassing, i do have some "hair" problems, so it was kind of the only way to keep it off for longer periods of time.  you have to go back at least every couple of months, depending upon your hair growth rate. eventually though my lazer person says it should stop coming.

whats this lotion stuff, everyone keeps talking about? can you use it on you know where, the "V" spot, as sister Kathy calls it?  what are some products called?

plus, what products do you guys use for waxing? any very good (plus safe) homemade versions?

thanks....

Yes this is true.. But the thing about shaving is that you dont have to wait till the hair grows back all the way before you can do it again.  Also it is quick, eazy and painless. Is there anything else like this?

Has anyone tried the epil step and spray 6 step (somthin like that)? you are suppose to spray and then just wipe the hair away :o

Sugaring is a good alternative to waxing if you want to give it a try. It's also supposed to be less painful as the stuff only catches the hairs and not the skin as well a la waxing. You can make your own, melt sugar into water add a couple of drops of rose water let it cool enough to apply to skin and rip off with rags or whatever, NB, make sure consistency is not too thick/thin. It's easy to wash off too if you chicken out at the last minute.
