You may want to try this service.  http://sitelevel.whatuseek.com/

It is free, but they have advertising on the result page of the search, not on the search box itself.  The advertising is just a few lines at the top of the search result page, the advertising is related to the word put in the search box, so depending what is put in the box, the advertising may be inappropriate (but there are no pictures).
It is quite easy to add to your site, they give you the java script code after you apply and give them the site details.  After that you can have your site indexed whenever you feel it is time, by using the member url and clicking on the indexing.  As a free member you can view reports on what words were put in the engine in the time frame you wish.
They do have a fee service if you don't want the advertising. The paid service has some other features too.

Asslam Alaikum!

You can use Open Source Search Engine at http://www.swish-e.org/
It is extremely fast.
But you need to configure it yourself which is easy if you are a techy kinda person. The
site also has sample cgi-script written in perl which you can run from your web server.

I assume you have your own web server and it's not an ISP that you use.

For the past 30 minutes I've been trying to find a thread that is apparently lost somewhere in the ARK :(

Is it possible that a list can be made available which can make the ARK more userfriendly.  The list should tell us which pages each forums begin and end on.

For example:

UCC archives (Jan-Mar 2003): ARK pages 1-40
Ikhwan archives(Jan-Mar 2003): ARK pages 41-70
UCC archives (Sep-Dec 2002): ARK pages 190-230

etc.

I should add here that the threads in the ARK should all be locked.  That is, nobody should be able to post in them.  Otherwise, the thread moves to the top of the Archives, and that would mess up the entire idea mentioned above.

Well i don't think people post to them as a rule. Sometimes someone new does it but otherwise it's ok...but it's easily lockable in any case.

As for doing the order like that.. I think the Archive Index like http://jannah.org/board/archives_index.html would be better...

I can arrange it by forum and within each forum by date..... inshaallah  however some of the old stuff doesn't have the 'forum' so guess those would just be by date or alphabetically, what's better?

Bhaloo,  google offers a cool free search feature, check out.  Its only valid for educational programs ;) :)  :

https://services.google.com/univ_faq.html#1

Its cool it keeps stats of all the keywords that were searched etc.  Hmm it looks like whatuseek has a better service though...

For a sample, check out http://www.jannah.org/window

Also, could someone from outside North America view http://www.jannah.org/window and confirm if the time zone feature is working correctly?  I'm not sure if its compensating for daylight savings time correctly?  The time it displays for the Wednesday program should correspond to 5PM New York time.  Taalibutal ilm, could you help me out??? :)

Jazakallahu khairan :)

I'll try posting this one more time. Somehow the board is rejecting my posts saying I have to be registered, even though I am and logged in.

Yes, the time zone feature works correctly even with the recent time change.  It shows the Wed. show at midnight Thursday, a seven hour difference, which is correct for this time of the year.

Wow cool jazakumallahu khairan :)  Its great that it works, but looks like it'll be tough to get listeners in your part of the world at that time of night  :)

Well, I would have trouble staying awake for it  :), but others here are more night owls than I.

Just out of curiosity, how does it automatically determine my time zone?  Is it from the regional settings on my computer or my IP?  It's amazing and a little scary what one click tells others.

Salam, fellow searchies...

I'm having difficulty searching for a thread. It's alright if I search them by the folders, since its easy now, since there's only like 2 pages per folder.

But when I do search for it, its usually old threads.. meaning I would have to click the ARCH.

But now, the ARCH is like gazillions of pages

That means, Barr can't find old thread.

Now, Barr hopes, she can get some tips to do her seacrh. Maybe, se7en can do a new version of her search tips?

Shukran! :)

Salam Alaikum!

I get the following time in [+8:00 GMT]

» Listen to the program live 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM, Thursdays!
» Listen to the program live 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM, Sundays!   [Low Bandwidth]
» Listen to the program live 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM, Sundays!

I guess NYC is [-5:00 GMT] with Daylight Saving [+1] you are 12 hrs off, so the time
seems okay except that the image says wednesday when it's really thurs here!

Hey peeps don't go through the pages of stuff in the archive.. USE THE ARCHIVE INDEX !!!

The link is up there at the top of the page in the PS

or here:

http://jannah.org/board/archives_index.html

It's arranged by forum and by date and you use the Edit > Find or Search in your browser to find stuff you're looking for inshaAllah!!!

:)  Hahah thats too bad Talibatul 'ilm, you have to drink more  []  :)

Alhamdulillah, wow 4 AM to 5 AM Sundays!!! Oh man you must be in New Zealand, subhanAllah!!!

Its a cool JavaScript that looks at your regional settings on your computer.  Its amazing how much info they can gather about you.  I have a statistics page that collects the IP address, referring link, Webbrowser, country, time, what words you searched...etc...and its a simple program.  Its pretty scary, if you log on from your work sometimes it even logs your name as part of your IP address!...Imagine what Big Brother can do  :( :)

If the statistics page info is a software program, could you tell me the name? Or does it come with your website server package?

No, alhamdulillah its a free service called Xtreme Tracker.  All you have to do is place the icon somewhere on your webpage, and it will collect all the stat data for you.   Here's the info for WindowOnIslam.com:

You can sign up here:

That's partly because the developers of the browsers and software have coded in that functionality without the users knowing.

Note: There are ways of faking those web site referals, I know a lot of ppl who have "hacked" their browsers to send out fake information.

People would be surprised about the amount of data your browser can give out. Especially with the advent of broadband access, where people are "always on" the net, it's easy to sort of forget that there's all types of data coming in and out of the line.

And no, contrary to popular belief "firewalls" are not the solution. A basic firewall is a tool that can deny/allow incoming and outgoing connections but rarely if ever does any filtering of the type of data that goes out.

For all you CS/Networking guru's remember the 7 layer OSI model? I'm talking about the "application" layer in this case.

Anyhow I'm gonna stop here coz I think I just sunk to the depths of geekdom  :P

Jazaka Allahu khairan brother Lightningatnite for the info.
I'm a little late in coming around to this, but in the sign up page there is the following comment: Placing the trackercode on your site is quite simple, however you need to be familiar with HTML. We strongly advise NOT to make use of any WYSIWYG editors such as FrontPage, Netscape Composer, etc. but a normal texteditor like Notepad. WYSIWYG Editors mostly change the code in such a way that errors will occur

O.k, so what is one to do then if they are not experts in HTML and use one of the above?  Can one just use the HTML format and write it in instead of the normal view, or is that too risky for a novice?
