These times seem so stressful. My stomach has been perpetually tied in knots, and with so much going on in my life, and the Ummah in general...I was wondering what do you all do when you feel like you just need to climb into a shuttle and head out to a far distant galaxy, that has never ending rainbows, sunny dayz, mountainous heights, awe inspiring water falls, and breath taking sunsets :-*

Since i am very far away from that mesmerizing galaxy  ::) what are some things you do that help you cheer up and chill out once in while.

Sis in distress,
Maliha :'(

Assalamu Alaikum Sr.Maliha;

Believe it or not.. what you can a far distant galaxy actually exists.. come to the next Takiya retreat in the Adirondacks and you will see rainbows, sunny dayz, mountainous heights, awe inspiring water falls, and breath taking sunsets :) This will surely help you relax and get away from the daily de-energizing cycle of dunya.

After months of stress, I took a trip one memorable weekend to a wonderful, sun-touched vale of peace, and found a healing for my troubled mind...

...in the midst of my studies.

I literally sat down, shunned company, made the intention to spend the day for Allah's sake, and wholeheartedly undertook my task. I did not leave the house save once during those days. And Allah contented me.

Why did I find peace in this way? I think the major benefit I derived was being away from people for a while...since I know very few truly good people (most are usually too inebriated for intelligent discourse) it made a nice change, one that I desperately needed. Perhaps, sis Maliha, if you can find your "set-off point" (if you have one) in a similar way, and remove yourself from whatever aggravates it at least for a weekend, perhaps you will find that far distant galaxy, at least for a little while...

[wlm]

PS Of course, post-fajr Quran always helps the reflective mind...that time shows a different world to the one that wakes up later...

1. Indian Head Massage : i had this when i had "Bells Palsy".  The medication kept me awake and i would get about 2 hours sleep a night, if i was lucky.  My cousin gave me this massage, from the top of the head to below the shoulder blade, wow..it was relaxing!!!  Alhumdulillah.  You just want to sleep like a baby after that :)

2. Rooibos tea : it's South African, natural, tasty and it's good for you.  Make yourself a cuppa to keep you company while you contemplate the many diferent vacations you are going to take after having that Indian head massage :)  Insha Allah

I totally agree...I was totally paranoid and very skeptical when my friend offered to "practise" on me...but it was GREAT, hehe, and now I think she avoids me cuz she knows that when I see her, all i see is *mmm head massage! head MASSAGE!!* lol ;)

Well, other people call our Rooibos tea "BUSH tea".  That doesnt sound too great to me, but believe us, it really is so soothing and relaxing.  It herbal, but I only found it in England once, maybe cuz it was a shop owned by South Africans?? lol.  Bismilla, we should open a tea-export company, what do you say?

BTW sis, i missed ya! where have you been?

Sis Maliha, hope you get through this stressful time, inshaAllah, with an invigorated spirit.

Try thinking about the akhira.  This world is short, as if we are crossing a bridge from one land to another.  We were not born here.  We long to go home, to Jannah, from where we came.  Allah intends to punish the disbelievers with their wealth and children, their power and their arrogance.  Do not take it to heart.  Allah will settle all of the accounts in the akhira.

Salaams,

Whenever I'm stressed I do Ju Jistu, Vale Tudo, Wrestling and a 3 minutes spar of boxing. If other Muslims took part in this sport or any physical, yet competitive sport I'm sure they'd have a different perspective on life.

Yet I carry on at times in other forms of dawah and it always makes me wonder to our situation, the situation of the Muslims worldwide. The more I think of it the more I get upset, so nowadays what I do is if I get into that mood I make dua to help us get out of this prediciment.

Our time as bro lightningatnite has said is limited therefore we can not let our emotions get to our ultimate goal of seeing Allah happy with whatever we have done.

As one teacher said to its martial arts students 'Willing is not enough, we must appply', therefore I see it as, we must do what we can, make dua and leave the rest to Allah.

Have you tried making other friends in your area who have a similiar thinking to yourself ? It will help tremendously and who knows you may be able to pull more off in the work your doing.

Hope it helps,

Hanif

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah,

Personally, I'm waiting for the day when I will be with the waterfalls and trees but meanwhile... a cup of peppermint tea :) soothes me. I also love a good facial and massage. If not a full body one, at least go for a neck and shoulders massage, and fill the room with aromatheraphy oils. mmmm .. and then, doze of to sleep... I'd love that.

Physical relaxation aside...

Al Kindi once said,
"Do not be like a lamp that burns out while illuminating others.
Be the moon which provides a new light everytime it faces the sun".

Its very normal for us to be tired, lethargic or to border suffering burn out but...
Let the light of our hearts be illuminated by the light of Allah, as if it is a niche and within it is a lamp that is in a glass like a brilliant star whose oil would almost glow forth of itself (like that ayah in Surah An-Nur). That would give us the strength to carry on, having tasted the sweetness of striving for Him.

Its amazing how the rejuvenating spirit can freshen and give strength even to a stressed mind and body, mashaAllah.

You may want to try and do iktikaf in a mosque.. even for 30 mins, after work. To just escape for a while.. far from the madding crowd. Solah and  Qur'an.. As Shifa' (The Cure) to our unsettled hearts. Therapeutic....  mashaAllah :)

May your heart be filled with tranquility, dear sis
Wassalam :-)

I think it'll be really cool if we'll have internet in jannah too and a message board like this. Sending messages and posting would really be cool, isn't it?  :P I'll have my name as "Relaxed forever" on the board then  8).

[slm] i forgot to add my most favourite way of destressing, especially if i can get away from the Office in the middle of a hectic day...i go down to the beach and watch the waves.  It is SO soothing.  It is also my favourite place to make Zhikr.  As the oceans wash onto the shore and rush along back into the vastness of the ocean, one feesl as though the waves take all your troubles away with them.  :-*

psst. Sr. Shahida, jazaak Allah for the kind words.  Will be SMSing you shortly. Insha Allah  :-*
