Craft Painting

I recently started taking classes for craft painting (fabric, ceramic and wood).  Does anyone here share the same hobby?

Where's the best place to get patterns from?  My children's coloring book is what i utilise for now  :-[

I was also asked to paint square patches by someone who was going to put them together for a babies duvet.  It's difficult trying to get patterns for a baby boy, so we settled on sea-shells.  Insha Allah i will get round to painting this soon.

My neighbour wanted frames made for her room to match her curtaining...so there is a lot of potential in this....Insha Allah

It also gives me 3 hours on a Saturady afternoon to myself to get creative  :-*

..well, i hope someone here shares my interest in all things arts and crafts....

Bismilla, why do you live so far away?  Get a home up here in Joburg, and we can do all this stuff together...actually, you can TEACH me!  :-*  I really want to learn glass painting, I have all sorts of patterns in my head, but have never had the time to actually get it down on the glass...my sis bought me all the material, so I do wanna make something nice for her.

Hopefully someone who knows more than me, and is more creative can share her/*his* experience with you...good luck, and post a pic of what you make, ok?

Salamat

I do crafts also.  My favorite is needlepoint.  It gives the hands something to do while leaving the mind free to take in information from Islamic videos or audios.   :-*

I also crochet, knit, paint ceramics  and sew for myself and family and home decor.

As you probablly guessed, I am a stay at home mom.  I love it because I get to try out new cooking recipes from Muslim countries to treat my family.  I couldn't do that when I was a full time executive secretary/full charge bookkeeper.  It also gives me lots of time to spend visiting my family here in our on-line community.  :-/  :-/

About 2 yrs ago I bought loads of paint and some silk so I could do some silk painting.  One of them alhumdulilah was quite good, and the other one got completely ruined because I realised that I should have bought a different type of black colour (ie one that wasn't going to spread everywhere and leak into all the other colours on the silk!!).  After that I became slightly disheartened and put everything aside.

Now that I've moved back home, I just threw all my stuff away.  I can't believe I did that, considering how much money I spent on the paints!

Sista (who lives in the uk), u can go into any craft shops and even some DIY stores, and buy paints, silk and other types of material and do ur own stuff.  I don't know about actual places and courses though.

Has anyone else tried dyeing things?  Last yr I had a real disaster.   I took everyone's clothes out of the washing maschine and dumped them on the floor.  I put the dye and my top in, and everything just leaked everywhere!!  It was so awful.  My top came out real bad and the clothes that I'd dumped on the floor got ruined!  I had to buy ppl new clothes to get over the guilt and I still owe someone eighty pounds cuz we calculated that's the worth of how much of their clothes I ruined.  I also ruined this person's work uniform.  So now I'm reluctant to dye anything!! :P

:-) I gave away the African elephant i painted, the other stuff i usually paint the eyes closed or paint over it....i wonder if that is alright.

Otherwise i stick to flowers :-)  Which reminds me, you garden is beautiful Masah Allah.  Seems like you have a HUGE garden (?) ...very nice.  I tried gardening, but am not very succesful at that and i really admire people who are :)

Sr. SalamPeaceShalom :-) I can empathise with your laundry disasters.  I totally ruined my husbands brand new clothing doing that.....  eish..never again LOL

No, i have not tried painting by dyeing or silk painting.  I have seens pics of this in craft magazines...it's REALLY good.

The paint i use can be used on fabric, ceramic and wood..... and a bit more controllable than the silk painting variety i think  :-/  maybe you should give regular fabric painting a try Insha Allah.

Ha Ha! My "garden" is very small! Every year I let Ali pick out 10 bulbs... hence I have a very eclectic garden!

Anyone can have tulips, crocuses and hyacynth. In the fall dig a hole, put the bulb in and Subhanna Allah, in the spring you have flowers!

My spot is quite shady, so the tulips take longer than the neighbors to bloom. Right now I have many tulips blooming and everyone else's is gone!

Try it... you will be amazed how easy it really is.
