[slm] Yellow times.org is down, and so is a blog that was being run by a Cnn correspondent, showing the reality of war. I wonder what are some of your favorite sources of information in the midst of all the propaganda? My favorite right now are democracynow.org and commondreams.org, I browse other sites and I like to go home and compare the *real* news I have gathered during the day, with the twisted propaganda on CNN, and their media cohorts. [slm] Sister, I have found the following alternative news sources useful: www.buzzflash.org www.alternet.org (good discussion forums) www.informationclearinghouse.info (updated frequenly) www.commondreams.org www.zmag.org With dictatorships like Saddam's, at least everyone knows the media, is an instrument of government, so no one really takes them seriously, internally or externally. In democracies, in times of crisis, they can be truelly scary instruments of mass manipulation. Most people are very easily manipulated when their "Fear" button has been pushed. In times of real, perceived or manufactured "crisis", everybody tows the line, if not at the reporter level then at the editorial level or higher up. This, results in a "common theme" being carried by the major media outlets. The illusion of "freedom" of opinion, when one is actually being sheppered to arrive at convenient conclusions. Since most people woud rather be told what is going on "out there" rather than dig for themselves. Those who can see through the "illusion" are too few to matter and can be easily labelled as marginals, to diffuse the effect of their opinions. I am sorry, I have gone on a tangent, it's probably to do with the current depressing situation. Never mind, since we beleive in Allah (God) SWT, and we beleive in his wisdome, and justice, we can trust that some good will come out of all this "In Shaa Allah" (God willling). |
