[slm] I was accepted into a teaching Fellows Program with Washington D.C. Inshaallah its a two year commitment where you actually teach in the classrooms, and also earn your Master's in Education at the same time. I will be attending American University ;D Alhamdullillah I am really excited about it :) Its an awesome opportunity and I will get away from the boredom of I.T. (no offense to all the geeks on the board ;) ) My dream was to attend the Graduate School of Islamic Sciences, but Allah seems to have something else in store for me. So Inshaallah Kheir :) Any teachers or would be teachers on the board? The only concern I have is holidays? Do we actually have to teach the children about the different holidays? I was thinking I was just going to skip them all together? Anywayz, I have a gazillion questions to ask people already in this field:) Let me know who you are...I promise I wouldn't bother you too, too, much ;) Sis, Maliha :-) PS: I forgot to add, I will be working with English as a Second Language classes, so I will primarily deal with the immigrant population:) Which is cool :-X [wlm] |

I have taught ESL students of all ages and masha-Allah I think they are the most pleasant group to work with because most are very eager to learn and they really appreciate your help. I'm sure you will enjoy teaching. salam, merimda |

[slm] How is you Rainbow ? Missed talking with ya :) I have teaching experience (wonderful and unforgettable ones) and I hope to have that experience again in the future. Some things I would like to share with you are : Be Confident - Students always know a nervous teacher and they tend to try funny stuff if they think they can get away with it Strike a Balance - between class discipline and compassion. I have on many occasions won over trust with firmness yet kindness. Enjoy what you do - Teaching is touching the minds of others. It is unfair for them to be saddled with someone who does not do his/her best just cos he/she made the wrong career choice. Dedicate - all your efforts to Allah SWT :) My du'a for you sweetcakes and remember that you have been blessed. Wassalam. |

[slm], Nice one sis. What age group you gonna teach? Just a few tips: 1. Be patient. 2. Stay patient. 3. Drink plenty of fluids before entering the class. 4. Be humorous. (how'd u spell it?) 5. Don't be too relaxed - you must be firm with the kids these days. Wa salaamun 'alaykum. |

[slm] Jazakumu Allahu Khayran all :) They haven't given me a specific placement but it will be 1-3 grade ESL Inshaallah:) My hubby is working hard to make it so I will be able to go to the Graduate School of Islamic Sciences so there's hope :-* But if not, I am excited nontheless...Inshaallah Kheir:) I taught ESL for adults though, and that was a lot of fun. I am teaching Sunday School now, teens, they are the best Alhamdullillah. My positive sentiments on teaching makes veteran teachers smile a bit...Like "awww..poor idealistic new teacher"... ::) Oh well...we'll see what I have to say two years from now :P Teacher Maliha :-) [wlm] |

Assalamu'alaikum :) [quote]Any teachers or would be teachers on the board? [/quote] How abt an ex-teacher? :) I love teaching, and when I was 16, I so much wanted to be a teacher. But alas.. my short stint as a relief teacher told me that I can't handle naughty kids. I gotta learn how to be quick with my tounge when speaking Malay.. smt I've yet to master ... and lo and behold.. I gotta teach the Malay language. :o :-[ So, I took up Psychology... and thought if I don't become a psychologist and dwell into research and counselling, at least, I'll teach adults, or older teenagers.. whom I can transpire, and inspire minds and hearts. But... I became a Family Development Officer instead. Hmmmm...I'm still trying to figure out wots my point telling you this... ??? Anyways! Hope you'll be that moon who basks from the radiance of the sun and illuminate the souls who are, thirsty for knowledge, inshaAllah. :-) [quote]PS Methinks Barr is IM-ing with da mysterious stranger lol [/quote] :o errr.. wanna lead me to your 'lil secret, eh? who's this da mysterious stranger, eh? :P Let all be known! I am !!!!INNOCENT!!!! of all charges 8) |

[color=Teal] [slm] Sister Maliha, Congratulations! ;D ;D Insha'Allah you'll love teaching. I'm in my first year of teaching first grade at an Islamic School al hamdu lillah. My degree is actually in social studies/ secondary education, but I was offered this job and it was too good to pass up. Teaching can be tough at times and is more work than you would ever imagine :P, but it is great when the kids are happy to see you in the morning or they give you pictures. My advice is that you try to get enough sleep every night. You'll have more patience when things go wrong. :-X If you have any questions just let me know. ;) [wlm] Marcie :-) [/color] |
