| [B]US/UK TROOPS OUT NOW -- HEALTHCARE NOT WARFARE[/B] [i]Date:[/i] Saturday April 5th [i]Where:[/i] Downtown Toronto, Dundas Square at Yonge and Dundas across from the Eaton Centre and beside Sheikh Deedat Islamic Centre (100 Bond St.) [i]Time:[/i] NOON. [i]Called by:[/i] Coalition to Stop the War supported by over 40 labour, faith, community and cultural organisations (INCLUDING MANY Masjids) Join the coalition to stop the war and thousands of others around the world in marching for peace and justice and an end to the US invasion of Iraq. Speakers at the rally include: # Mazen Jaafar: Coalition to Stop the War # Tariq Ali: writer, activist member of the UK Stop the War Coalition # Shirley Douglas: Toronto Health Coalition # Svend Robinson: Member of Parliament from BC and Health critic # Judy Darcy: national president, Canadian Union of Public Employees # Deborah Bourque: national president, Canadian Union of Postal Workers And others. The rally will be followed by a march up Yonge St, west on College St. past the UK Consulate, down University past the US Consulate and to Metro Hall past the CBC building, where we will demand that the CBC provide more truthful coverage of the what the war is doing to the people of Iraq. There will be other speakers from various communities and music at Metro Hall. This is a mass peace march and we encourage everyone to please respect that and to stick together to make our voices heard. [sub] if you look closely, very closely, you can see me, brother HiMY! Yeah, that's me, the bro holding up the sign.[/sub] Last week I made over twenty signs about 14 by 20 inches and handed them out for free to muslims and non-muslims too. The Khateeb for the previous Juma had lamented to me that Muslims were showing up but without any signs or banners saying that Muslims Openly opposed the war. So, My signs said, ' Every Pharoah Has His Moses' and 'It Takes a Global Village to Protect an Iraqi Child'. PLEASE make a banner or sign and bring it to the rally, Both my signs ended up on TV with other people holding them. If you can't make a sign in time, InshAllah, if you spot a brother wearing a Kqfi and handing out signs with the above two messages , please come up and ask me for a sign. :) Salam, ~ HiMY! ~ |
