| AssalamuAllaikum, to all my sisters; I want to apply to a medical school in the State, but my undergraduate GPA is not that great. But someone recently mention to me a Post Baccalaureate Pre-medical Programs in the State were someone like me can take it to up grade their GPA. I was just wondering whether there are any sister who are in medical school at the moment, who had taken this root. Also, whether some of these programs are open to Canadian students. | [slm] i'm sort of in your position, but i'm graduating in may, so decision time is upon me. what i've decided to do is not go to one of those post-bac programs, because they are sooo expensive! no financial aid or anything, and most expect you to go full time, as if money is just going to fall out of the sky to pay for the program in the first place. so i'm just going to take some upper level coursework and get the two or three recs i need from the professors in those classes. state schools are a lot cheaper, and graduate classes are very small, i already have advisor and supervisor recommendations, but need to up my GPA a bit too. HTH! oh yeah, also try government programs. the NIH has a post-bac program which is research oriented, and pays a small stipend. according to their website, a lot of post-bac, pre-med students take this route [wlm] :-) |
