There must be one or two fans out there? Who do you support, and what do you think your chances are this year?

This was just over a year ago: http://www.olympic.org/uk/utilities/multimedia/gallery/results_uk.asp?entid=84&MediaType=vid

May take a while to download, but well worth it.

This brings back chills for me...as anyone in Canada can attest, the streets of every city in every province were empty during this game. The ending, with Canada leading  the US 4-2 and the stadium breaking into a spontanious rendition of Oh Canada is one of the best memories. The same thing happened at the restaurant we were watching the game at...everyone standing, singing the anthem together.

Playoffs: Vancouver Canucks over St. Louis in 6 games.

Go Leafs Go!! Go Leafs Go!!

And no, I'm really not a fan....I'm one of those people who can't even follow the puck on the ice...I'm always like "wooahhhh where'd it go??"  And by the time I realize where it DID go, it's already on the other end of the rink thingamajiggy.

But yeah...I like the blue and white.

Another Leafs fans...yeck! I should start another thread..."Reason's to hate the Leafs" ;)

They sure handed Philly their own butts last night. I actually think the Leafs will win this round, but looks like a crash course with the Sens (who'll still win in 5 ::))

Sens & __________? in the finals (I'd call out my team, but I don't want to Jinx them) ;D.

The fun starts tonight for me... ;D ;D ;D

Salam,

I no longer follow NHL hockey but in my hockey obsession days I was a big Vancouver Canuck fan or.. ehem..more accurately an obsessed Pavel Bure fan. Well I liked Trevor Linden also.  I kinda jumped on the Canuck bandwagon  in 94 when they made it to the finals. Unfortunately I brought Pavel Bure and the Canucks nothing but bad luck ^_^. I remember Pavel Bure being out for almost two seasons due to injury. When I quit being a fan, Bure  and the Canucks started doing well..Anyway, now I couldn't care less for Pavel Bure or NHL hockey.
But dude, if it will make you feel any better: *Climbs on the Canuck bandwagon*  GO CANUCKS GO! *jumps off the Canuck bandwagon*

salam,

Slaughter at GM Place: Blues 6, ‘Nuck 0. As in Zip.

Man, it started ugly last night, and just got worst from there. Not much to say, but our guys looked tight, nervous, and weren’t moving their feet.

It’ll get better quickly though; the ‘Nucks have a great record this year when coming off a hard loss…they haven’t lost more than 2 games in a row all year, and went on two huge undefeated streaks. Naslund will show his leadership tomorrow night, and set up Bert for a couple. ‘Nuck 3, Blues 1.

Yeah, 1994 was a special time. The city was just in fever! Pavel Bure did well for us that year, but I’m so happy the spoiled little snot moved on. That trade (Bure for Jovonoski) is looking better and better every year. Linden coming back to Vancouver last year (who was traded away for Todd Bertuzzi) brought back some of that leadership, and since then Vancouver has been something like 70% wins! Since Bure has been gone, we’ve put two guys into the top 5 in scoring (Naslund w/ 104 points this year, 48 goals, and Bert w/ 46 goals, and I thing 96 points), and have Jovo as a perennial Norris trophy candidate. Bure...well he’s simply and injury prone coke head. He couldn’t have left Vancouver too soon.

GO CANUCKS GO!!!

Wow.

What a night last night.

First off, two thumbs down to my best buddy, who got his hands on a pair of playoff tix last night, and elected to bring his wife (who hates hockey with a passion, but hates me more) to the game instead of his mate. Even Mrs. Dude disapproved of that move; “What’s he thinking?”

Girls blouse… >:(

The building was absolutely charged. The city was charged. On the way to another couples to have dinner and watch the game, the freeway was packed with people trying to get downtown. Canucks flags being flown outside of about ¼ of the car windows. Everywhere we looked, Canucks flags, honking, yelling out of windows…

The chap who sang the anthems could really carry a tune. Really, he must have been a concert singer. After a stirring rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner”- which I’m proud to say, Vancouver fans cheered mightily throughout (great class)- he broke into Oh Canada.

You see, at GM place, the anthems are always a highlight. Everyone makes sure they’re in their seats, and usually the first few notes can’t be heard because of the cheering of our anthem. Then, almost on cue, as soon as the singer is done “…our home and native land…”, the cheering stops, and the building begins to sing along in unison. This always happens. Last night, as soon as the singer was done belting out the verse, he stopped singing, and the fans carried the middle section, and the building sang together:

“With glowing hearts,
We see the rise,
The true North strong and free!
From far and wide,
Oh Canada,
We stand on guard for thee!
God keep our land,
Glorious and free,
Oh Canada,
We stand on guard,
For thee…”

At this point, the magnificent singer took over again for the final belt of “Oh Canada, we stand on guard, or thee!”

Above the maniacal cheering, the singer could still be heard clearly above all else. Un-freaking-believable. During the anthem, the camera panned down to the players. Young Brandon Reid- a call up from the Manitoba Moose- seemed in awe. Old vet Trevor Linden- who’s played 80+ playoff games for Vancouver and has contributed a point a game- starred at the ice. Matti Ohlund (a Swede), and Ed Jovonoski (Canadian) were taking it all in, grinning from ear to ear. Markus Naslund and Todd Bertuzzi sang. The kicker was Trent Klatt, an American, was weeping during the Canadian anthem. One of the toughest muckers in the show was bawling like a baby.

Fitting that Trent Klatt opened the scoring in the first period. That goal held up as the winner until 50 seconds left in the game, when Dan Cloutier’s shutout was ruined. Jovonoski had the other (and eventual winner). Bertuzzi made his presence felt, by running over Blues Captain and MVP Al McInnis on the first shift, putting him out for the game and probably the series with a separated shoulder. That is huge.

Great night last night…can’t wait till Monday!

GO CANUCKS GO!!!

Well…the lads are completely bottling it.

3-1 St. Louis win. We manage 14 shots all game, only one by our Captain, Markus Naslund. A weak limp wrested attempt at that. I’m beginning to thing he can’t handle the pressure of the playoffs…he was a non-factor last year, too. That’s what we get for naming a Swede as captain. Give the “C” back to Linden. You need a Canadian as Captain- bottom line! >:(

As you can tell, this is slowly killing me. St. Louis now leads the series 2-1, and their shutting down the second most potent attack in the game easily. This may go 7.

Doesn’t help that the refs call so many penos that most of the game is played with either team short. No flow. Bullocks. >:(

Anyhow, the rest of the Canadian teams seem to be doing quite well. TO overachieving, which has become their MO for the playoffs the last few years. 2-1 lead on Philly. Ottawa, after a disastrous start seem in control with a big win last night. 2-1 there. Edmonton 2-1 up on Dallas. Hopefully all these teams can advance. :)

Big surprise: Anaheim (Mike’s team) 3-0 over Detroit! How does that happen? Great goaltending.  ???

Hopefully the ‘Nucks can remember that it’s April now, and not game 48 of the NHL season, and step it up. Naslund has to get it going for us to win this thing. Stop playing like a girl’s field hockey player Markus! Actually, start playing like one…any improvement will be welcome. :-[

Ducks advance, beating the mighty Wings in 4. I smell another Disney movie…this one should bring in a load of bills.

I knew all along that the Ducks were going to lay the quack down. How silly of me to pick Detroit in my pool when it was so obvious Giguere is such a quackerjack goaltender. What was I thinking? And Rob Niedermayer, what a firequacker out there for the Ducks. I should have known he would play well for the first time in his career instead of looking like he's on quack. Paul Kariya will look back on this series after he retires as a real feather in his quap.

Looks good on Cujo, too. He flops around more than a fish caught in a duck’s bill. He sulked at the Olympics after he bottled it, and Quinn wouldn’t play him for his fowl play.

As for the Canucks- blew another last night. Bums. They're now down 3-1 in the series vs. St. Louis. I think the highest bridge in town is the 2nd Narrows... >:(

Quack,

Dude.

I root for all Canadian teams...some more than others.

That said, if (when) Vancouver makes it to the finals this season, and they happen to draw Toronto (not likely...so sorry), the Leafs could be Russia as far as I'm concerned! ;)

I don't know what "madina mumin" means. Probably "dumb white guy", but they're not telling me. ;)

Dude,  i haven't been able to get all the details from our biased american press, but just how are the Canucks doing?   All I have been hearing about are those world champion angels, world champion lakers and the soon to be world champion MIGHTY DUCKS.  Not to mention that none of our pro football teams have lost a game in at least 6 or so years.

Salam,

Methinks Dude jumped off that bridge..:(

The Canucks blew a 3-1 lead in the series and a 2-0 lead in game seven. Oh well. I confess..It's all my fault, because I showed some interest in the playoffs this year. Everytime I turned on the T.V  to see how the Canucks were doing Minn would score. I'm bad luck..^_^

One Canadian team left to cheer for. ^_^
