Why Are American Peace Activists being Killed?

Tuesday, April 15th: Moot Court Room, UM Law School, 500 West Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201

6:30pm: Free Middle Eastern Food
7:00pm: Adam Shapiro of the ISM
8:00pm: Film: Palestine is Still the Issue (2002)

On March 16th: American peace activist, Rachel Corrie, a college
student from Olympia, Washington, age 23 was run over and killed by an Israeli Army bulldozer in the Gaza Strip.

On April 5th: Brian Avery, a 24-year-old American peace activist from
New Mexico the suffered a serious gun shot wound when he was shot in the face by a machine gun fired from an Israeli Armored Personnel Carrier.

On April 5th: 35-year old peace activist, Lasse Schmidt was wounded by
shrapnel in the leg fired by the Israeli Army in Jenin.

On April 11th: 22 year-old British peace activist, Tom Hundall from
Manchester, Britain was shot in the back of the head while trying to
help two children trapped in Israeli crossfire.


Adam Shapiro is an activist with the International Solidarity Movement(ISM) which promotes nonviolent direct action in Palestine. Mr. Shapiro holds an MA in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and an MA in Politics from NYU. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in International Relations at American University. He is an honorary member of the American organization Veterans for
Peace and been has been nominated for the Nation/Puffin Foundation Prize and Oscar Romero Award for Leadership and Service to Human Rights.
