It's fun to be Muslim! by Faiza Abdul Qadir C faizaaq @ yahoo.co.in Las' month, my cousins & I had to attend an Islamic Ijtema in Millat Nagar, Mumbai (formerly Bombay). Millat Nagar is a peaceful neighbourhood in the suburbs of Mumbai. It so happen'd tht the Ijtema was scheduled for 10:00 in the morn & we couldn't possibly reach there on time. So we decided to spend the night at the house of an Aunt who lives in the same area & was also the head of the group organising the Ijtema. After 'Isha, my brother drove us to my cousins'. Since we were four & we wanted to enjoy the long drive to Millat Nagar(which we couldnt do if my bro was sittin' with us. He's a Gair mehram for my cousins, right? ;) ), all four of us crammed in one car with my bro tailing us in another car. O.k. Alhumdulillah, all of us were in the Islamic hijab including the veil. u can Imagine wht signals, a car full of veiled Muhajjibahs could possibly send to the minds of kuffar!!! Ofcourse, it has to be "OSAMA'S WOMEN"!!!!! We were waiting at a signal talking about Br. Zain Bhika's anasheed, when a scooter stopped near our car. Two of my cousins were on the cell, my cousin who was driving was busy adjusting the rear-view mirror, leaving me alone to look around the busy street. & then i heard something...something like, "yes, this is their road...everything is theirs'. They can do any thing they want. Look, how dare they drive with 'tht thing' on..yeh inke baap ka road hai (this is their father's road)" i looked at the couple on the scooter who were staring at us & talkin in Gujrati in a 'loud whisper'. It was a young, Parsi couple. I quickly tapped my 'driver-cousin' & asked her to listen. My cousin who was sitting with me in the back seat also heard some of the conversation & quickly put the cell down. Jus' then the green light glowed & we started... my 'driver-cousin' who's got some temper started honking the horn & then shouted "su chhe?? (what's it?) any problem??" The woman jus' turned her face to her right (we were on their left) & was forcing the man to turn his face to the right. The man was trying unsuccessfully to ride the scooter with his face to the right & to keep his eyes on the road infront.Luckily for him, we reached the J.J marg flyover. We went up & the couple went down! & then all of us burst out laughing!!! Some couple!!!We rolled up the windows & all of us started, "yeh yeh! we are terrorists. we've Uzi's & Ak-47's hidden beneath our cloaks!!" When a coward like him could ride a scooter wearing trousers, why couldn't we drive a car wearing the Hijab? Crazy!!! I'll never forget tht day...it was the day when i realized, it's fun to be a muslim, especially a Muhajjibah... |

I Am A Practicing Muslim by Zara Samina Laskar Lambazinga @ aol.com I am a practicing Muslim and I believe in my religion to the fullest. An issue that I feel is of concern to me is the misconception of Islam throughout the world. There are so many people that have negative thoughts on Islam. The biased media such as news, movies and the newspaper can play a dashing role in the mind. It?s like if one person is bad then the whole group is bad. Some of those negative thoughts are of arranged marriages, sexism, and Islamic Jihad. Arranged marriages were practiced throughout the whole world at one point. Today, arranged marriages are practiced in the eastern sections of the world and in some parts of Africa where the parents make the selection of their child?s spouse. In every culture and religion that practices arranged marriages is not all the same. Most Muslim families practice this type of marriage. Many nonmuslims think that this type of marriage is ridiculous and it is totally unfair because the ??yet to be?? bride and groom can?t choose their own spouse through means of dating. Dating is forbidden in Islam and that is because Allah(God) wants us to save ourselves for our future spouses. For example, the phrase when people say ?your 1st kiss is very special?. Why is it that the 1st kiss is very special and not the 2nd or third? So, as you can see that we are to protect ourselves and keep our minds and bodies pure and save everything for our future spouse. Another example is, like a gift, you receive a new shirt and you are the 1st to wear it; so here it applies as your spouse is the 1st to have you. Arranged marriages are not to be forced. This is how the process works: parents find a suitable spouse and introduce them to their son/daughter, the ?yet to be?? bride and groom talk and get to know each other but they may not be intimate, if they agree with each other then a marriage is going to take place, and if they don?t approve of each other then they don?t marry and the process continues as such. In this way we have marriage 1st and then love instead of love and then marriage. But, there is no problem with love first and then marriage either. Personally, living in this country I would love to have an arranged marriage because this is something so unique and different to me. Sexism against women is an issue that is dealt with worldwide and in Islam there is no sexism and I say this from my heart. I wear the hijab and it is the best thing I can do for myself. I feel so free and liberated. The honor, love and respect are so great. Nonmuslims claim that Islam has given no rights to women, that women are oppressed, and that women are considered inferior to men but they never see the Islamic part to this. Islam has given the highest position to womankind on earth, while the rest of the world is wallowing in the dregs of degradation and savagery. An example is prostitution, escort agencies, illegal mistresses, nudity, and shamelessness. These are only some of the 'rights' that the world has given to women. It has made women the cheapest commodity on earth - from a car to a packet of sweets, everything sell with the picture of a nude or semi-nude woman. The body of this cheap woman is the property of one and all. Every lusty and lecherous man is at full liberty to cast his filthy and dirty gazas upon her anatomy and commit everything evil and profanity in his mind and heart. I think this is very low and degrading that there is no self-respect of the lecherous man and the cheap woman. How cheap and despised is this woman on show?! How cheap is this woman the world has created?! On the contrary, the woman in Islam is a "precious jewel" not to be viewed by all and sundry. She is far too precious then to be viewed and exhibited to any lecherous man. Her beauty and charms are reserved for the only person that truly appreciates and loves her - her husband. Thus, she is highly protected and covered at all times, unlike the cheap, shameless woman of the world who is the playmate of thousands but loved by none for what she really is. Islam is in my heart at all times. Finally, I have come to the topic of Jihad, which in a broader sense means striving and struggling to the utmost extent of one's ability and power by exerting oneself spiritually and being a better person in the way of Allah and doing one's best to preach the message of Islam to others. This is the Jihad that a Muslim can carry out for Islam throughout his/her life. When used in the narrower sense of fighting against a visible enemy, Jihad means fighting only in self-defense, when the initiative of attack is taken by the other party. There are also those Muslims that just totally misapply Jihad by interpreting it differently and just killing any innocent person. This is not the correct form of Jihad and is totally against Quran(word of Allah). An example of the correct form of Jihad is Jerusalem. The Jews are trying to take over the sacred Muslim territory by occupying land that rightfully belongs to the Palestinians, which consists of both Christians and Muslims. What right and authority does a Jew have to regulate who can enter the Mosque by holding a rifle? What does this show about the Jews? What kind of message are the Muslims receiving when an act such as explained is being done? Obviously, in this case something must be done and when it is a battle with religion then it is a battle called Jihad. Moreover, I don?t approve of injustice and oppression and I shall fight my way towards righteousness by Jihad. Unfortunately, the world hasn?t given Islam a fair chance. Every opportunity is utilized to derogate and blaspheme the true Islamic stand. Due to blindly and gullibly swallowing this filth that is fed to them day and night by the world?s media, even Muslims have become adversely affected by this falsehood and have begun to doubt the true Islamic standpoint. In conclusion, despite the corruption of the Muslim people, Islam, in the real, is a peaceful religion by the connection of one?s inner self, heart, mind and soul to the Almighty. There is a famous quote by a Muslim author which I regard highly of and use in my everyday life as the quote is: ALLAH is my Lord-ISLAM is my life-Al-QUR'AN is my guide-The SUNNAH is my practice-JIHAD is my spirit- RIGHTEOUSNESS is my character-PARADISE is my goal-I ENJOIN what is RIGHT-FORBID what is WRONG-FIGHT against OPPRESSION-And will DIE to establish ISLAM. Hopefully, one day all humans will get together regardless of race, religion, sex, and background and we all can see beyond that invisible brick wall that separates us humans. As you can see that I am very fond of Islam and that my passion and love is Islam. . |

Salaams,
[We rolled up the windows & all of us started, "yeh yeh! we are terrorists. we've Uzi's & Ak-47's hidden beneath our cloaks!!"
Shows how naive these young ladies are, I know of some incidents where people have said this and ended up being tortured. You should be careful to what you say especially in Hindustan.
