Muslim community in Ft. Lauderdale area |

[slm] I'm writing from New York City (Jamaica, Queens) where I've been living for the past few weeks. Maybe it's because I've been totally under the weather during this time, but I'm not happy here. I used to live in Fremont, CA, about 15 minutes drive from the Zaytuna Institute and I think if I'm going to live in the US, I might as well make an effort to move back to the Bay Area. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, my mother has suggested that I move to Ft. Lauderdale. Can anybody give me an idea of what it's like in Ft. Lauderdale (i.e. climate, Muslim community and Islamic education opportunities, etc., local economy and cost of living)? Also, are there any Muslim scholars over there? And, finally, is the non-Muslim population tolerable or unbearably ignorant and tacky? At least in the Bay Area, people are well-educated and open to learning. I'm not sure that's the case in Ft. Lauderdale. I would also be interested in hearing about where in Florida, if not in Ft. Lauderdale, one finds a thriving/developing Muslim community. If the US doesn't work out, I'll have to think seriously about moving overseas, so I'd like to explore the possibilities here as thoroughly as possible, especially since my mother advised me to. I have to get married soon, insh Allah, and that means figuring out where to settle down, obviously. Please remember me in your d'ua if you read this even if you don't respond otherwise. Jazakum Allahu khairan. Wasalam alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. :-X |
