| [slm] all ... The feature for viewing last 10 posts is not working for me! has anyone noticed it, sorry if i missed any news that it is down for maintenance or something... and can we have this feature parameterized ? i mean user enters the number of recent posts that s/he wants to have a see at and there you go ? i know i know.. u ppl are already doing a gr8 job by keeping up with all these posts and replying to them as well so it might come hard for you to code the requested feature but it'll really come handy because our Madina has grown bigger with all these sections.. and my next sugestion is addressing that :) well internet has made this world smaller, right :) ? ... so why do i have to walk long distances in the "Madina" to keep up with all these posts :) i've read the idea of sis jannah about making this place like a Muslim City with different sections and all "and it seems beautiful :)"... but dont u ppl find it hard if you are to keep up with all the posts? if yes then can't we make it simpler by reducing the number of sections :) well i'm a Software Quality Assurer and always look at softwares as a critic so you can just ignore this post, i wont mind a bit coz i really like u guys :) but here is what i'll suggest Merge "Hikmah Pond for Cyber Subculture ", "Tree of Hope", "Naseeha Corner", "Bebzi Stand", "Al-Manar Lighthouse" i know u'll not like me for what i've suggested :) ...j/k ... but seriously speaking if u just get some statistics of posts in thse sections then i think they more or less belong to the same super class... and life will become easier for some including the admins [obviously :)] Asim Zafar [ur brother in islaam] |

| [wlm] jazakallah khair bro for all the good advice.. i think the posts were getting a little heavy to search through to find the 10 latest.. so i put all the old posts in the ARK and now the recent thing only searches the regular posts and not the archives so that sped it up a bit.. it should work very fast now inshaAllah as for parameterizing it.. i'm not a strong perl programmer.. so we'll have to see it inshaAllah... we'll put it on the 'madina wishlist' :) the recent posts of a person in their profile does have choices that you can pick out...like if you want to see your last 5 10, 25, all posts... i never really envisioned people reading ALL the posts on the board.. there's quite a few eh.... i think reducing the number of forums wouldn't reduce the # posts.. that will only increase as time goes on.. and to have fewer forums means alot more stuff in each forum and i kind of like it to be organized in the different sections. i thought in the future we would have people only posting in one forum and that's where they'd be.. or maybe a few others.. whatever they were in to.. If you look at each of those sections you mentioned bro there are different "types" of posts in there with a differen purpose.. to mix those up again will just make things confusing. but jazakallah khair for your suggestions.. :-X |
