Hillshire Farms have Pork Casings on Beef

Assalam Alaylum I would like to notify all muslims out there that hillshire farms uses pork casing on there beef products. The just started writing under ingredients though in 2001 before that it was never listed. here is a series of responses I received from them. Thank you for visiting the Hillshire Farm web site.  We appreciate your interest in our products and are happy to assist you with your questions and/or concerns. In accordance with USDA Labeling, "Pork Casing" must be labeled as such on the package.  This labeling change went into effect in 2001, prior to this the type of casing used did not have to be disclosed on the label. As previously stated the Hillshire Farm Beef Smoked Sausage and Beef Polska Kielbasa are labeled with "Natural Pork Casing".  The Hillshire Farm Lit'l Beef Smokies are produced in a man made casing that is removed after preparation, therefore, this product does not have a casing. Hillshire Farm Beef  Smoked Sausage products do have a natural pork casings and is labeled as such. Currently there is no man-made casing available that meets Hillshire Farm's high quality standards.  We continue to look for an alternate source of casing, however, at this time, no other exists.  We have forwarded your concerns and comments to our quality control department.
