TORONTO PEACE ASSEMBLY Saturday May 3 1 to 6pm Council Chambers, Toronto City Hall 100 Queen St. west Sponsored by the Coalition to Stop the War http://www.NoWar.ca stopthewar@sympatico.ca 416-588-5555 Millions of people around the world and tens of thousands here in Toronto marched on the streets to say no to the war on Iraq. This movement inspired millions more around the world to say no to the Bush doctrine of a "war without end". Now we are faced with a situation where the US is occupying Iraq, and threatening war on other nations in the Middle East. Further to this the war has been used as a cover by Government in Canada to continue to erode civil liberties with attacks on the rights of immigrants and refugees. Along with this attacks on people of Arab descent and the muslim faith have grown in the climate of war. The Toronto Peace Assembly is being held at this critical moment to bring together all those who want to discuss how the new peace movement can respond to these events and strategize about how we can prevent the new threats by the US to the people of the Middle east and the threat at home by a government intent on stripping away our civil liberties. This assembly also hopes to help map a way forward that can continue to build on the unity we've seen in opposition to the war. We invite you to attend this assembly and to spread the word about this event to all those whom you've worked with to oppose the war on Iraq. For Peace and Solidarity Coalition to Stop the War |
