At work yesterday I was talking to a guy about some project and he looked at my shoes and said wow, NICE SHOES .  And he's right, my shoes are nice. ;)

I have some Nike Air Zooms (Gary Payton) and they look like this, except mine are metallic silver instead of red.  The black is still there.
http://www.netology.com/shoes/302267062.htm

Except where there is the dark gret part, mine is black, and below the dark grey part, mine is metallic silver.  These shoes really stand out,  but you ballers out there know how it is, always gotta be ready for a game of b-ball, right Abu Hamza . ;)  So I started to think about what kind of shoes do the guys on the board wear,

Uncle  Hanif-  He's the brother that loves the outdoors and and is into sports, that's why I'm guessing he has a pair of Timberlands.

Bulwark of Islam (B.O.I.) - With all the places this brother knows in Karachi, he has to be representin, and that's why I'm guessin he's got a pair of Batas (made from real Jeep tires).

Br. Khalid -  Here we have a brother with class, undoubtedly a frequent shopper at Harrods, he must be wearing a pair of Bali's from Italy.

So guys, what shoes do you wear? ???

Here's a modern day poet by the name of Ali describing the kinds of shoes he likes.

I like the limited edition to kaki and army green
patent leather pin stripe you should see how I do the strings
size twelve with the strap
Red and white with a cardinal cap
all flavors well it just depend
on when and where I am at

I keep it real dirty, dirty you know how I do
purple in gold with the Lakers the broncos the orange in blue
I like em floppy with ankle socks
lows mids and high tops,  Which are clear so
But this tims and fat laces with it is cold
but when I win the gold (blhhha) in the house I'm a flow
then its back to the on purpose with em and dots in the toe
then I'm stopping this dough that I'm spending fa sho
on dem Nike air force and e behind de o

The wife calls me “Amelda Marcos” because of my obsession with shoes. I don’t know who she was, but I guess she had a lot of shoes.

Running: Asics Gel Lite
Squash / Gym: Nike Air Zoom Cross Trainer (nice shoes) ;)
Soccer: Always have used Adidas Copas or Puma King.
Riding: Diadora (cleated), Nike OCG flats (freeride shoe)
Work: Office: Roots suede loafers- one black, one beige. Steel toes on worksite days.
Casual: Grey suede lace less Pumas
Late Spring – early Fall casual: nearly exclusively sports sandals.

Those are my favorites. Too many others to list. I go through shoes like most people go through breakfast cereal. My work style is khakis / casual slacks & golf shirts…business casual. Casual wear: surfer shorts or track pants, lots of Umbro and Lotto clothing (through soccer), lots of Race Face & Roach clothing (through riding).

I wear jeans almost never anymore…to restrictive. Need to be loose, and comfortable if I’m dressing casually. If you catch me in a casual environment, I dress like I’m ready for the beach. I dread the days I need to wear a suit now. I used to love it when I came out of college…it made me feel grown up, I guess. Now I have about 8 suits and two dozen white-collar shirts in the closet I never touch.

Sure this shouldn't be in the sisters section? ;)

Wa'alaikum Assalam wa rahmatullah,
Bulwark of Islam (B.O.I.) - With all the places this brother knows in Karachi, he has to be representin, and that's why I'm guessin he's got a pair of Batas (made from real Jeep tires).
Hmmm.......I don't remember buying any shoes from Bata. I used to do my shoe-shopping from English Boot House (EBH), but as for those shoes made from real Jeep tyres..........man, bhaloo, u reminded me of something..........I had to wear those army shoes made from real tyre material for one month when I was on training for National Cadet Corps. ( aka NCC) almost 9 years back. Its a theoretical plus practical training where they teach u the basics of army's rules and regulations, things like discipline and some very practical things like rifle-shooting, attack tactics etc. Although it was all fun overall, but those shoes were one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever worn in my life, and specially getting those punishments like frog jump with those shoes on (u literally have to sit and jump like a frog.......try 10 of those, and see how killer that is for ur thighs :)) was one of the worst things, and if they had to make it severe for us, they would make us do 50 of those jumps uphill at a time. But whatever, I ended up being the commander for my battalion  8) at the end of training, and was awarded for being the 11th best cadet overall out of a total of 112 or so.
As for shoes like Nike Air Zooms (Gary Payton), I ain't a big b-ball fan, so I wear simple Adidas joggers and play everything like soccer, table tennis, sepak takraw, tennis with those on  :). They are in bad shape now, need to be replaced.

Wassalam.

Hi Dude,

Imelda Marcos was the wife of a former Philippines President, Ferdinard Marcos.  He was another bad joke for a president.

As for Nike shoes, my sons are crazy about them.  Last summer I had to take them to NIKE TOWN in London's Oxford Street (Augut 2002).  They simply did not want to buy Nike shoes from any other shop.  Will share this with them.  I hope I am will not be asked to buy them, though.

Cheers,

Halima

I went to Nike Town in Chicago a few years back (the original), when I was still in College and a starvin' student. Good luck not spending money there...man, nice shop!

Take care,

Imelda.

Salaams,
Uncle  Hanif-  He's the brother that loves the outdoors and and is into sports, that's why I'm guessing he has a pair of Timberlands.
Bro you guessed right that I'm kinda an outdoor person, I did use to wear Timberlands but since they have a policy on supporting terrorists, I thought stuff em not having my cash. So I've now switched to 'Wolverines' where I use em for all purposes, outdoor, indoor, wrestling, weight lifting, paintballing, running etc. truly one of the best shoes out there.

As for work, I wear boots when I'm kinda off site, but when I've gotta be in the office with the dreaded shirt and tie its shoes from Clarks, who make one the finest shoes around.

When I go heavy distance running its got to be Hi-Tec Magnums, one of the best military boots around.

I also have those two left chappals that I wore on my wedding day, you know the ones with those curves at the end, and whether you put the left one on the right, the right on the left they still fit, they cost me a packet them. I try and wear em every eid or so...so so so sad shoes.

I did have a pair of doc martins once lasted me years did those...

I owned a pair of their soccer boots once.

Speaking of Nike you guys... they should be boycotted for using child labor.  Lets not support this cruel practice.

Adidas does not use child labor.  They have taken steps to reduce overtime in Asian production lines, give fair wages to their employees, and they also do not deal with other firms that use child labor.   They also support the Child Labor Project in Pakistan in giving children education and opportunities--much better alternatives to stitching soccer balls (for Nike). Besides, Adidas is cooler  :)

Bhaloo those are some serious shoes you have? ;-)

As for my own footwear, I’ve always been on the side of practicality which means slip ons whenever venturing out to the Masjid. How do people undo/do laces every time they go I do not know ;-)

For work one has to wear a smart set of shoes although they do have to be durable given the walking I do and the fact that I do want them to last a bit!!!

Can’t say I have that many pairs unlike Imelda in this thread (although the number of shoes and handbags the other gender seem to have always amazes me ;-) )

As for trainers I’m waiting for my sponsorship deal from Reebok ;)

PS Who is Gary Payton? I've heard of Walter Payton but Gary...???

No no, not at all.  We are going for quality here versus quantity, that's why its in the Ikhwan folder.   :P  My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that men have few shoes (they are highly specialized for a certain purpose), whereas women try to collect as many shoes as possible.  ;)

There's so many things for me to respond to in this thread, I'll be back later.

I can attest: I use all my shoes, and wear them out, too.  I will pay for quality.

Speaking of the "Glove", he should be re-nicked "The handbag", or "The Purse". He's lost his edge...girl's blouse. :P

If any of you ever get an opportunity to make it up to Vancouver, be sure to stop by the Roots Canada factory direct clearance centre. Roots is known for their quality (they sponsored both the Canadian and US Winter Olympic Teams), and they make cracking shoes and boots. Very stylish, excellent quality, all using "used" leather (from cows who have already been slaughtered for the meat processing industry), and best of all: the prices are substantially reduced at the centre! For casual and work wear, I haven't bought a shoe anywhere else in about 4 years.

I don't collect handbags,

Imelda.

I bought them on sale, but shopping for bargains is a thread for another time.  :P   The best shoe deals I got were a few years back.  There were some Nike Airflight shoes that were going for $129.  This store had a grand opening and had a special promotion where they sold the shoes for $29!!   :o   Another time I bought a pair of Tommy Hilfigers from Eatons in Canada in Vancouver for $50 canadian bucks, they had a huge sale and were originally priced at $150.   I obviously didn't get that good of a deal on my current pair of Nikes, but I still got them at an unbelievable price.  :P

It is originally Malaysian sport as far as I know, and is very commonly played in Malaysia and Thailand. People have nets in their backyards and they play it there. I am guessing its as common in Malaysia and Thailand as cricket is in India and Pakistan :). The first time I came to know about this sport was last summer when I was watching a documentary on Malaysia (I guess it was travel channel) and I was shocked like this  :o :o when I saw the way it is played, I mean those high jumps and special kicks, one needs to be Jackie Chan for those killer ones. I am not even close to it. So, I played it for the first time last week. There is a Malaysian brother here who had this sepak takraw ball with him, and we decided to play volleyball with our feet :), that's the best way he explained us in short how its played, but it was real fun playing it. Basically, we were falling down on ground more than shooting the ball because of the somerset kicks that we were trying.

It is kind of embarrassing to admit but I am another Imelda Marcos.  My colleagues have commented on it and so has my family.  As for handbags, I have started a collection already.

I leave all shoe brands to my boys who know all the latest brands and all the names that go with them and now I can see that the brothers here are too.  I do put my foot down when it comes to purchasing for my boys unless it is a special occassion or there is a sale of course.

Good luck to you all.

okay does anyone else have the embarassing habit of buying shoes and never wearing them? I have like about 10 pairs of shoes and only constantly wear two pairs - my runners and my boots. All others are relegated to the Schuhschrank ( ;)@Dawn) and never seem to get worn. They kill my feet every time I wear them.
Last week was really sunny and warm here -25Degrees Cel- and I decided to wear my sandals - BIG mistake! :o I got massive blisters and they scraped the skin off the tops of my feet!!
Since then my feet have been sweating blissfully in my runners/boots.

Hope this wasn't TMI  :P

Yes, Eleanor!  In fact, the habit of wearing favourite shoes all the time precipates the agony of blisters once you try to put on those shoes that you have relegated to the back of your wardrobe. The trick is to wear all those shoes as frequently as you can so that your feet get used to them.  That way, you avoid those blisters and enjoy the shoes at the same time.

A colleague sent me the below as an SMS to mobile phone on shoes:

I need you
I love you
I can't live without you
I can't go anywhere with you
.. Oh my lovely
SHOES!

with a picture of a shoe after the word shoe, of course!

Just to clarify again, I don’t collect handbags.

I forgot one pair of Birkenstock sandals I still have. I bought them in 1992, and up until last summer, wore them nearly exclusively in the summer (for casual wear), and even in the winter to soccer games. They are beat up badly, rancid looking, and definitely bring out the hippy look. Even my teammates can’t handle them…and that’s a pretty uncouth group of lads. “Get those rancid, smelly a** sandals out of here!” “Your feet are going to rot off someday you know!”

Love the Birks.

As to the shoe addiction, a few of us may have some problems. Maybe we can start a 12-step program, or a support group.

BTW: my Zooms were one of the originals. Bought them in 1995 (I worked at a shoe store through College), and have only ever used them for the court or gym. They're still in pretty good condition, and I still use them.

They're very lightweight. White with orange and green trim. Not flashy like yours though. I don't need shades to look at 'em. 8)

I can't believe that shoes thread  :o :o :o :o

I've got another fun topic I'll start up in the next day or two.  Yeah, this topic really took off.

But getting back to the shoes, its really amazing the things that are going on in men's shoes and the technology used.  i.e. shoes that have air pumps in them, shoes that have mini catapults, etc.

Anyways here's a bit of trivia.
Shaquille O'Neal wears size 22 shoes.
David Robinsons wears size 17 shoes.
The tallest person according to modern records, wore size 37 shoes.  He had specially built shoes, a loose nail in one of his pairs caused him to get gangrene and he died at an early age (in his 20s).

okay it is HOT here today  :o

my feet are VERY sweaty and when you have warm sweaty feet all of you is warm and sweaty. The solution  ???  Just take off your shoes and socks and go around barefoot  :-[
It makes some people go  :o and other people (the ones who get the pong) go  :P but it is very cooling and refreshing for the whole body...  :-*

I'm going to try to wear my sandals again tomorrow - watch this spot  8)
