As-salaam aleikum everyone.
I really need all your help right now - big time! My finals are coming up and I'm overwhelmed. Lately I've noticed that whenever an exam is near I get an acute panic attack and my mind goes blank. (I have alot to deal with and I feel my mind is shattered into a million pieces. ) My anxiety is even more compounded now because I have an exam this week, one next week, and all my finals (3)on the week after that! :(  :'( :(  :'( :(
Anyway, let me get to the point. I'm feeling really negative at the moment and I need some kind of du'aa that will wash all those negative feelings away plus give me the confidence and strength to get through these 3 weeks.
Pleeeeeease help this sister who's about to lose her mind and she'll be oh so grateful!

Stop all sugar intake.....right away........including soft drinks.....

Stop all caffine right away...

Go to GNC and buy urself 800 micro grams of folic acid......

Also buy urself a bottle of honey ..

Remain in Wudhu as much as possible and when u are not studying ....recite darood silently............

Inshallah as much as u do this u will feel better....this is a very very normal thing to happen.

Inshallah you will do good on ur exams and this is not really a panic attack, its just "reality" striking hard....

we all went thru this ....

[wlm] sis,

I guess it won't really help to ask u to stop panicking and to try and stay calm.  Insha'Allaah u'll be ok though and will get thru it.  U've asked for some duaas.  I found a couple for u, they are for times of distress.  Insha'Allaah u'll find them of benefit.

“And when My servant question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them bear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright.” (Al-Baqarah: 186)

On the authority of Ibn `Abbas who said: The Prophet used to invoke Allah at the time of distress, saying, "La ilaha illal-lahu al-`azim, al-halim, la ilaha illal-lahu rabbu-s-samawati wal-ard wa rabbu-l-`arsh il-`azim. (There is no god but Allah, the Great, the Tolerant; there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne; there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Heaven and the earth, the Lord of the Edifying Throne.)" (al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The supplication of a person in distress is to say: Allahumma rahmatak arju fala takilni ila nafsi tarfata `aynin, wa aslih li sha’ni kullahu (O Allah! I seek Your mercy; so don’t abandon me to my own devices even for an instant; straighten out all my tangled affairs for me.)" (Reported by Abu Dawud)

I am sure somebody started a thread at one point about such duaas.  I don't know if u'll be able to find it.  Then again, that might just be my imagination and the thread doesn't even exist!

The more u panic, the more difficult it will be for u to study.  Maybe u could pray some extra nafl prayers, read some more qur'aan, and do some dhikr.

If u have much to study, split each subject into certain parts, and spend a certain amount of time per day on each certain part. There's also a thread on exams or something, maybe if u need ideas on how to study, you could use some of the ones suggested on that thread.

Remember, ur exams are not here right now (this very day).  U still have time to study for them, and when the first one does come, insha'Allaah u'll be ready for it.

Lastly, suffice to say that we'll b thinking of u and praying that all goes well, insha'Allaah.

 Take care sis

i wouldn't recommend stopping caffeine all together at once. you can get a pretty nasty headache (believe me, it aint pretty). so you should cut down gradually if you're going to decrease your caffeine intake.

Mulla!

Good advise my man.

Cut out the sugar and caffeine if you're freaking out. Get lots of minerals and supplements into your body...they will help keep you sharp. (But, correct...if you drink a lot of coffee now, just cut it into 1/3. Withdrawl is real, and brings a nasty headache with it.)

If possible, take an hour out of your day for a solitary workout. The hour includes the walk to and from the change room, changing and showering time, and a good 1/2 hour energy burn. The time alone will help you focus on the next task, and let you get away from things for long enough to get some sanity back.

Eat healthy, but in small snacks. No big portions. Lots and lots of water. Don't worry- bathroom breaks are free.

Change your address to the library.

You'll be fine, and afterwards, you'll say to yourself, "Now that wasn't so bad."

Good luck!

Mulla!

Well, I've never really been the spiritual type, or able to quote scriptures very well...but what I think you're getting at is to face your fears head on. Fear can cripple anyone, and has at some point crippled everyone. Whatever the fear may be, it usually goes away the sooner you take on the task that has given you so much stress. Like in athletics...everything is fine as soon as the whistle blows or the gun goes off!

One more helpful tip: at some point you must sleep. Before going to bed, write down a list of things to do in the morning. That way you can dive right back in to where you left off.

Wow -- really great advice!

As for writing things down before bed -- I find that my mind runs away with things if I allow it.  So I end up writing half of my essay, or revising my notes, in my head!!!  ....blankly staring at the ceiling...praying for sleep...wishing I had just taken Dude's advice, and used paper instead.

Once the mind starts rolling.... ::)

Peace,

Exams are funn!!!! COme on guys...what's up with this nervousness and anxiety.  It's like an adventure...all that preparation and studying and learning!  (Wouldn't trade it for anything...ok ok...maybe a PBJ sandwich)..

I have a friend who gets so sick before exams he ends up upchucking.  I have another friend who got so stressed this past exam period that she went thru some severe health problems.

I guess when people ask me how I remain so calm..the answer is two-fold.  First of all, my exams are not the end all and be-all of my life.  I know that if I fail, it is my own fault because I haven't prepared.  And if I prepare, then there is absolutely no reason for me to be doing poorly.  (Okay okay...other than Physics...that subject is like the SPAWN reincarnated.) You alone know how much you need to prepare in order to get the grade you want.

Secondly, exam-taking is an art.  And I'm talking about that two/three hour slot where you actually write the exam.  I have noticed that some people just freeze before examinations...or some people never seem to have enough time to complete their papers.  I think the best thing I did for my university career was to take this voluntary course which teaches you tricks on time management, exam preparation, test-taking, etc....

And I recommend all of you to take it...

One more thing, DUAA DUAA DUAA!!!!

We are nothing without this most powerful tool....and this tool is not much without your hard work.  The two go hand in hand....

May Allah swt give you all the Taufeeq to do really well academically.

Wasalaam.

SF.
