[slm] warahmatullah :) I was on the bus today, and I saw a big large banner on "X2", the latest X Men movie. I remembered, when I was younger, and they still showed X-men cartoons on TV, I used to be such a fan. I guess, they still do, but I just stopped watching. That was one of the many cartoons, which draws many lessons and is so life-like... and I love everybit of it. My favourites are the Beast and Wolverine. The Beast becoz, he has such a gentle soul and is so humble in his disposition and the manner he speaks, eventhough he's a scientist etc. And I like Wolverine, becoz, beyond his bad-boy exterior, he actually has a good passionate heart and such high drive. Any X-men fans out there?... who is your favourite X-Men? ...or if U're not an X-men fan... wot is your favourite cartoon character? |

Rogue is definately my fav! Tortured by the physical and mental barriers that kept her from knowing human touch -- she was still strong, absolutely beautiful,...and covered ;) Some of the comic book drawings of her were amazing! Gambit was cool too...but it was mainly all about his accent ;D And the opening theme song was...exciting (pumpin'?) :) *sigh* and then I grew up (well...maybe not completely!) Peace, Nistar |

Salaams,
...or if U're not an X-men fan... wot is your favourite cartoon character?
Always a close one between Spiderman and Incredible Hulk. Loved the Hulk series on TV as well, by the way Davids a scientist as well. However one of his words that always ring in my ear when I remember the Hulk 'Mr Mcgee you wouldn't like it when it when I get angry' they sure don't make programmes like that. The theme tune at the end always used to make me feel sorry for David, man such a kewl guy. So calm and collected, unless you made him angry. I can't believe myself that I cried when the series ended, had a frog in my throat when Bill Bixby died in 1993. Salaams Hanif |

Salam Haven't seen the first movie but I was a fan of the cartoon. My favourite was Storm because I thought she was of Egyptian background like me. I found out much later that she was just raised in Egypt. But Egyptian or not, I still like her..^_^ I liked Wolverine because he was Canadian. ^_^ I also liked the Spiderman cartoons. Didn't like the movie though. salam, merimda |

As an adolecent boy, I was more of a fan of the X-Men girls then the guys. Storm was my fave too. Right up there with Betty and Veronica. I digress... He wasn't really an X-Man, just helped out once in a while...but Spiderman rocked. That said, nobody beats Superman. Unless, of course, you have a krypnotite suit on. Then, you can beat up Supes with your purse. "Hit him with ya purse, ya girl's blouse!" |

Salaam I grew up with he-man and She-ra and the smurfs. She-ra, the best. Oh and thundercats. then the human characters, batman and robin...."holy heartfailure batman. that bassy bird has left us buffaloed." that's just classic. Then I started watching x-men, and for some reason I took a like to Storm, Rogue, and the redhead (later to be The Phoenix.) Watched the first movie and will watch the second one. Also a star trek fan and star wars. spok, data, seven of nine, and dr. bashir=my favorites. today my daughter has no moral cartoon favorites. it's all britney spears (there is nothing BS in our house.) so i finally bought some muslim cartoon videos, she's starting to like Salam, but the videos are expensive being $20 a piece for one episode. AA Hey, this was supposed to be about cartoons! Looks like the sci-fi lovers have hijacked this thread. I consider myself to be an expert on cartoons (I always have cartoon quizzes with my kids and newphews/nieces). Here are a few of my all time favs : 1. Tom and Jerry. I LOVE the violence in it, though I hate the way Jerry always wins. 2. Dastardly and Muttley in Thier Flying Machines, aka Stop the Pigeon. Dastartdly used to have a very early cell phone to talk with the General, if you remember. 3. Wacky Races, again with D&M. Drat, and Super Drat! 4. Help, It's the Hair Bear Bunch. The bear with the 70's Afro hairstyle. 5. Any Droopy cartoon. "Hello, all you happy people". 6. Any Tex Avery cartoon. If you've seen them, no further comment is necessary. Could go on all day, but I've got a job to do! |

[slm] ;-) Seen all X-men cartoons once, some twice. Thinking about watching them all again. My favourite is Wolverine! His remarks are so cool! "I didn't ask for this adamantium-laced skeleton. I didn't ask to be what I am. I just wanted to be human. Something you had and you threw it away." Wolverine: Get out. Rogue: Where am I supposed to go? Wolverine: I don't know. Rogue: You don't know, or you don't care? Wolverine: Pick one. Prof. Charles Francis Xavier: Where are you going? Wolverine: To find her. Storm: How? Wolverine: The traditional way: look! Not to mention, He-man was realistic because he rode around on a huge tiger. On the coolness scale, nobody beats Batman. He had a mean streak, too. At the end of the day, may favorite was always Superman. |

As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah, Saadia just told me what X-men was about. Interesting theme, altho I can't say I follow this thread. :) Anyhow - side comment (has nothing to do with whether or not watching movies/tv is haraam. We've actually discussed that one to death, although I'm pretty sure none of us here are qualified to give a fatwah).
girls are kinda, like really lucky because they can watch X-MEN2 and not have to spend have half the movie staring at their shoelaces because Mystique keeps appearing throughout the movie in her body tight (nothing left to imagination) outfit....
I'm pretty sure covering (shape, skin) from the navel to the knees is the minimum coverage required between the *same* sex. Allahu A'lim, check with a scholar for details. The Prophet (S) lowered his gaze from not only *fully-covered* unrelated women (imagine his modesty with not-fully-covered women), but also some men (ex/ like those who did not have a beard). Subhan'Allah, he was the most modest of mankind *and* his ummah was made up of both active men *and* women. *Both* of whom he attended to (ie; this modesty factor should not hinder us from doing good actions, teaching/helping others, etc etc). Just trying to see how many times I can asterick-emphasize in one msg. Qur'aan, Chapter An-Noor/Light 24:30 and 31 |

Salam... Look wot I found... It came out in today's papers. And here's wot it says in the net. http://www.eurweb.com/articles/headlines/05062003/headlines976505062003.cfm ===================== NEW "X" MOVIE MAKIN' MONEY, BUT ... Muslim group is demanding an apology and more. (May. 6, 2003) *First the good news. "X2: X-Men United" featuring Halle Berry along with a star studded ensemble, ruled the nation's box office with an estimated $85.9 million take during its opening weekend, making it the fourth highest opening ever, studio sources said Sunday. And, if you look at the BIG picture of worldwide ticket sales, the film brought in $69.3 million outside of the US. That means the total opening weekend take was an incredible $155.2 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday. Now the bad news. Muslim civil rights group, Project Islamic H.O.P.E., and a coalition of Islamic organizations are demanding an apology from "X2" director, Bryan Singer, and are also demanding that anti-Islamic propaganda be deleted from the future release of the DVD version of the film. Project Islamic H.O.P.E's Najee Ali explained the group's concern. "Within the first 5 minutes of 'X2: X-Men United,' an evil villain, 'Col. William Stryker,' is shown signing a document in the White House. He is shown wearing a ring featuring the Arabic symbol for 'Allah.' Colonel Stryker was never depicted as a Muslim in the comic book series. We feel this is a subtle but obvious attack on Islam." A press conference is planned for May 7 @ 12 noon, Leimert Park 3415 West 43rd Place (Crenshaw & Vernon), Los Angeles CA. For more info, phone: (323) 769-5267 or email: Send2IslamicHope@aol.com. |

Salaams, and some more info from the guardian. http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,12589,952717,00.html Lobby group slams 'anti-Islamic propaganda' of X-Men 2 Eagle-eyed lobbyist "sees" word of God on villain's ring Sean Clarke Friday May 9, 2003 Nasty, not nice: Brian Cox as William Stryker in X-Men 2 A US lobby group calling itself Project Islamic H.O.P.E. has criticised the new X-Men movie as anti-Muslim. Their fury is directed at an alleged brief shot of the word "Allah" inscribed on a signet ring. X-Men 2 features a right-wing American administration hell-bent on limiting the rights of a "mutant" minority. Many commentators have seen the film as a sympathetic allegory for the treatment of Muslims and Arabs in the US since September 11. But Najee Ali, Project Islamic H.O.P.E.'s founder and a frequent critic of rap and "gangsta" culture, claims that he could see the word Allah written in Arabic script on the signet ring of the film's chief baddie, General William Stryker (Brian Cox). Stryker is a hardline right-winger working on "Final Solution" to what he sees as "the mutant problem". Ali argues that the sight of the ring suggests that Stryker is a Muslim, which would turn the film itself into a subtle piece of "anti-Islamic propaganda". He has asked that the offending shot be removed from the DVD release. To our knowledge, Ali is the only one of the film's iillions of viewers so far who claim to have seen the name of God inscribed on Stryker's ring. In the meantime, London spokesmen for the film's makers 20th Century Fox were making no comment on the matter. · If you have seen the name of God on any item of jewellery in X-Men 2, please email film.editor@guardianunlimited.co.uk
WOW!! such garbage!! i find it odd that when i went to see X-men with a huge number of other muslims....that none of us saw this!!...i swear for each movie that comes out...there is always some muslim group claiming that the movie ...is aganist muslims/Islam ....ok now i agree most of the time their probably right..but come on xmen? ...Lord of the Rings??...wow......its all made up garabage...
Really, perhaps you should look into the history of such films. According to my friend who read some background info on Lord of the Rings, the guy who wrote the book was a strong Xtian i.e Tolkien. And some of the scences my friend says are indirectly referring to the time of the battles against the Xtians and Saracens. The Orcs have been depicted as Saracens. And what about the infamous terrorist movie with custom hijaabs and arab characters, 24 ?. What about True Lies, Black Hawk Down, The Siege all just coincidence ?. I'll let you figure that one out. salaams Hanif |

Assalamu alaikum all, Well, I don't know how many people'll remember me here/how many I'll remember (remember most of y'all), but it feels good to be back after such a loooooonnnngggg absence. Hey where's Asim? I haven't seen X2 yet, never even knew much about them 'til a few months ago when I finally got to watch the first movie. They're quite cool. As with all movies, I just watch whatever I can and avoid haram scenes. My cousins children kept training to conjour talons out of their fist after seeing Wolverine (but I did "Cyclops" one of 'em on http://ikanishometead.tripod.com/mvideo.htm ). My favourite super-heroes used to be Batman & Robin, SpiderMan, Superman, The Legion of Superheroes and Green Lantern (sure to have a movie soon, especially if Guy Gardner is to be featured). I'm Star Trek fan too (grew learning to be logical from Mr Spock and enjoying battles with the Borg) and I do enjoy cartoons - I have never watch a muslim cartoon! I used to complain there ought to be muslim cartoons for muslims children and never knew they existed until I saw ads for them over the Internet. Right now, I tend to enjoy watching the Mask cartoon the most. Smoking! |

[slm] How's everyone? I know this post is old, but I've been away for so long, I needed to play catch up. So here goes, brace yourself. *takes deep breath.....* It's true Jannah and I have been the best of freinds forever. and insha Allah, forever more. I know she liked Cptn Picard better then Kirk...I mean who doesn't? Did you guys see the lasp Trek movie? Gotta see it. X-men...ya Rub. It's a fictional movie and I gotta find out why that ring had to have the word Allah on it. Anyways, I have to agree with the bro there. I said the same thing to my freinds and they were in denial. Then again, they really didn't care because their not a fan. They're into love stories. One day I a group of 8 of us girls went to watch the Titanic (I had no choice) and they, all 7 of them, started crying, some literally, that the boy in front of us asked his mom, "Why are they all crying?" Mom just said "Shhh. Don't look?" I was unaffected and thought it was one of the most illogical movies ever produced. I mean excuse me, move over unless you don't care about me as much as I care about you. There was plenty room for two. We came out of the dark room and into the light. All of them were red from crying so much. They looked at me and said I was heartless (kidding of course ) Sorry getting off track. Matrix, 1st one, cool. 2nd one, stupid love story and wasted my money on that one. They tricked me. And I can't beleive no one mentioned, Wonder Woman. The best. The outfit gots to go, you know being a Muslimah and all, but an invisible jet, you gotta love that. And an Island of Girls only. It's got to be sweet. *exhale* Ma-salaama.... |
