| [slm] I would honestly like to know the following about the Madina Archives: Why is it a nightmare to search anything in it??? What is the criteria for archiving in the archives??? Is it the archiving selective or is everything in all the posts archived??? Or was it purposely made to difficult for people like me who are not IT gurus??? Why are the things in the archive not chronologically archived, say by date, or by year, etc., to make it easy to search??? I am not critizing Jannah's incredible efforts here, but I would genuinely like to know. [wlm] Halima |

| [wlm] The problem is there are thousands of threads and TENS of thousands of posts. Hence the server can't deal with key word searches, it takes.. 'forever'. The archives (http://jannah.org/board/archives_index.html) are a list of every thread title from Febuary 2002 to March 2003 arranged by forum first and then by date chronologically (scroll down you might not be seeing everything). Everything has been archived. It is not purposely made difficult. It's a list, simply of all past threads. The problem in going through this list is that a thread title may not be descriptive of the thread contents and also threads take many turns that end up discussing completely different things not mentioned in the title. What one needs to try to remember to find a thread is the date it was posted or who posted it or what forum it was in or what the title of the thread was or who posted last to it or all of the above. You can then use this information to do an Edit > Search on the archive page. Hope this helps.. there's really no other way to do it unfortunately. It's best to bookmark any thread you would like to re-read or find at a later time. |

| [slm] Is it possible to have it run on a database like SQL? Maybe each thread could have some key words, so that when a search is done, it searches those key words and then goes to the appropriate threads. Is there anyone on the board that has been able to make sufficient use of the search feature? |

| [wlm] We could if we installed the php version of the board one day in the future... but as of right now it's the perl version and no SQL.. I don't have SQL db access right now. |
