We are looking into this Islamic boarding school for my lil sis. It's located in Buffalo, NY. I was wondering for those who live in that area, if you know anything about it?

Any and all info is appreciated :)

is it the one headed by a dr memon?

i went there for itikaf  a long time ago.  it was a pretty spiritual place....kindof really a  sufi place if you like that kind of thing...the leader is supposed to be the last person alive (i think) who gave bayah to the very famous shaykh muhammad zakaraia kendalawi (one of the founders of tabligh jammat).    the head of the school was a doctor who worked in saudia for a long time and then spent his money to set up the school.

dar ul-uloom  in deoband, india is said to by far the most rigorous of islamic schools.  i have  been told that the saudi universities in madina, etc pale in comparison in regard to rigor (apparently dar ul-uloom goes through the hadith one by one, whereas other places just teach you methodology to analyse hadith)   the school in ny is a satellite school.  they have such satellite schools in england.

they teach islam in a  very traditional way, i think.  lots of rote memorization....lots of hanafi fiqh (i think)....if it is a tradiational dar ul-uloom school, they push the students very hard...

i don't know how they teach other sciences like math, english, and stuff like that....
which is quite important....

one thing to find out about is: do they teach arabic and the quran via the urdu language? or do they directly use arabic?   because it is basically an indian school, dar ul-ulooms i think often use urdu very heavily -- perhaps even to teach arabic (since the indian books on arabic language are written in urdu)

anyhow.... i really don't know much so this is probably not to helpful

Mr bean - do you know where the one for sisters is based in England?
I only know of the one so far (in Bradford) and that is for GCSEs and A levels but not for higher education....

Assalaamu alaykum Maliha,

I know a number of girls that have studied there, and if you'd like I could ask them to answer any questions you have.....I know you said anything, but if you could give some examples of what kind of information you're looking for, (just to get a general idea). How old is your sister ?  if you dont mind me asking... :)

Jazaki ALlahu Khayran Katheeran sis Aurora :)
Okay here just some rough specifics:

a) What is the program like?
b)Are the teacher's qualified?
c)What is the general school philosophy? Are they teaching towards a particular school of thought?
d) What's the rough breakdown of the schedule (like i wonder how they incorporate soo much islamic material into regular classes)
e) They teach in Urdu???
f) Did the girls like it? Did they grow? How do they rate their education? Do they recommend it to others?

My sister is 13..she is my pearl  :-* I just want to make sure the experience is worthwhile. It will also be her very first time away from home...so last questions: are the teachers/residential folks kind?
Okay, they may seem silly, but just some rough questions. Inshaallah if the feedback is good, we'll make a trip up there for a weekend to get more specifics:)
Again Jazaki Allahu Khayran :)

Hey Albanyans and Sis Kathy why the silence  ???

PS: IM me if you don't want to say anything here... no excuses :p

Sis,
Maliha :-)
