Favorite hang-out?

Salam,
Was just wondering what your usual hang-outs are, with friends, family? Some place where
you have a whole lot of fun, and never get tired of going at.
Not a very long time back, I thought clubbing was the best activity EVER. Result? I used
to hang out in these not-very-pleasant dance clubs, partying my way through till the
darkest hours of the night.
But Alhamdullilah, Allah (SWT) showed me my way back to Islam. A string of desparate
moments, doubled with fights with parents,  tripled with a feeling of severe emptiness
followed, after which I was able to regain my Ima'an, and figure out how to have fun the
HALLAAL way.
My friends and I just L-O-V-E to hang out at the Funplex bowling alley in Houston. Always
enjoy swingin' it out over there. Needless to say, we play for hours at a stretch until
our arms are numb, catch a flick in the theatre, lurk around in the skating rink and head
back home.
Another place I love going to is Galveston, a little after dark. (though its a
long-drive, but every bit is worth it:)). This is for those sombre moments at the beach, where we
friends just go to brood and contemplate, talk about the 'real' things in life, ie,
Islam, the good and the not-so-good things that we do.
When I am with my family, I can't exactly be all wild, and jumping around (since I am the
youngest, and the other sibs are just too old for that kind of stuff.), so I am all tamed
down. Enjoy going to a park in the evenings (especially the ones with swings in them.
Just my child-ish instincts speaking again). It is one place, where I get to spend real
quality time with my folks. Lots of time to interact with one another, and simultaneously
exchange/learn excellent views. A lot of people I know, hardly spend time with their
parents. Either they dont enjoy to so-call 'hang-out with the older generation', or they just
cannot seem to take out the time, which is a real pity. One gets to know so much by
listening to the experiences of our elders.(though a slight detour from the orignal subject)
So where do you guys go to have your fair share of fun? Parks, sports-centers,
dinner-parties, museums, shopping malls...all of the above.

Bring it on.

JazzakkAllah Khayrun.

All praises are due to the Almighty!  Way to go halaal Anon!   :-*  That's awesome, and so is He.  May you always be Blessed and be within the folds of God's Mercy and Love! ~Amin!

In terms of family...I'm an only child  :'( (but thank God I've been blessed with many wonderful sisters ;)  ), and my parents are very independent (ie: you're old enough now to get out of the house...but visit often!) -- so I mostly hang out with friends.

hmm...I tend to live at coffee places and Denny's at 3am during stressful exam times.  You can also find me at Theo's, praying in tiny corners and studying, and God willing, one day I'll hang out at Morrice's -- but that's just because I'm a nerd and I have no life  ::)

Oh I'm all about the beach as well!  But in K-town, all I've been able to claim is *my bench* next to the lake -- where I can watch breathtaking sunsets and shimmering full moons, glistening through the myriad of droplets dancing upon the water...chillin' with friends of course ;)

And a hang-out wouldn't be complete without tearing up the town with Binah in Neo ;) ;)

Take care Anon!

Peace,
Nistar

It must be so difficult to have a wild personality :)

Honestly never felt the urge to go clubbing, although I did attend my senior prom and one PSA jam.  The jam was probably the most depressing thing I have ever seen.  Worst display of Muslims Behaving Badly (MBB)... :)  I was there with my siblings, and we unanimously concluded that it was totally UNCOOL.  My prom was okay..I only went because my neighbor bought me a ticket, and I felt bad that she spent so much money on me.  She didn't have anyone else to go with, so she hung out with me and my friends...I ditched all of them and had a chat with the Tanzanian waitress.  Hey!  At least some good came out of it...the waitress is on my MSN list and my neighbor now has friends! heh.

So when the four of us (siblings) were together, depending on where we were living at the time, we used to find some sort of outdoor activity to keep engaged in.  It's cool to hang out with them...rollerblading, biking, horseback riding, tennis.  It's all about the quality time really....and inshaAllah we will be able to keep it up (despite the marital status of my sis and older bro...lol).  I come from a very close-knit extended family, and in spite of the fact that a lot of it is non-muslim, as a general rule, I hang out with my family...cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.  My parents worry less that way.  :)

With friends, it really depends.  I have such a variety of friends, that I can pick and choose from the gatherings and events to make sure that I am not stepping out of bounds of my comfort level.

It's usually standard stuff, though...dinner, movies, cooking, bowling...

Although a year and a half ago, on Eid, my cousins, siblings and I sat down to come up with a list of 30 or so really wacky things to do.  Like seriously wacky.  Things like "Wheelchair racing with the elderly" (Don't ask, we have a bunch of jokers amongst us)....or like "Let's pretend we're rich" (that was interesting), or attending a buddhist wedding.  That was fun.

But like my uncle says, it's not about what you do, it's about who you do it with!

Wasalaam.

I am a mom, very active in the community, and soooo busy.

My favorite hangout is alone, under a tree in a nearby park with a good book.

We also have a city about an hour away that has many waterfalls... this is my all time favorite and I never get tired of going there.
