as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah, This is a nice poem someone shared with me recently :) [color=black] sitaaro.n se aage jahaa.N aur bhii hai.n abhii ishq ke imtihaa.N aur bhii hai.n [i]There is a world beyond the stars There are more tests in life yet to come[/i] taayii zindagii se nahii.n ye fazaaye.n yahaa.N saika.Do.n kaaravaa.N aur bhii hai.n [i]The weathers/atmosphere is not tied to this life/phase there are thousands of caravans in this life yet to come[/i] kanaa'at na kar aalam-e-rang-o-bu par chaman aur bhii, aashiyaa.N aur bhii hai.n [i]Don’t be satisfied with this life of fragrance and color There are many more gardens , many more skies yet to come[/i] agar kho gayaa ek nasheman to kyaa Gam maqaamaat-e-aah-o-fugaa.N aur bhii hai.n [i]Don’t be sad that one nest is lost There many more pains and laments yet to come[/i] tuu shahii.n hai parwaaz hai kaam teraa tere saamane aasmaa.N aur bhii hai.n [i]You are an eagle your job is to fly there are many more skies in front of you yet to come[/i] isii roz-o-shab me.n ulajh kar na rah jaa ke tere zamiin-o-makaa.N aur bhii hai.n [i]Do not get lost in the mundane of this life there are many more lands many more destinations yet to come[/i] [/color] |

| [slm] ;-) Iqbal is my fav poet! I once thought about translating his "shikwa" (complain) and "jawabi-shikwa" (reply to complain) to English. Shikwa is about a Muslim asking Allah why after so many sacrifices by Muslims are Muslims in such a terrible condition and jawabi-shikwa is a what Iqbal thinks could be a possible reply from Allah on such a question. However, so much is lost in translation that I feel it would be an injustice to the great poet to attempt to translate his work into English. Just remembered a few his shairs (unit of 2 lines in urdu poetry). 1) ju kabhi sar-basajda hu-wa mein tu zameen say ani lagi sada taira dil tu hai sanam-ashna, tujhe kya milay ga namaaz mein If I ever prostrated, a voice would come from the earth "Your heart is full of idols, what will you find in prayer?" 2) zai-raane-kaaba say iqbal yey poochay koi kya haram ka tuhfa zamzam kay siwa kutch be nahin From visiters of kaaba, Iqbal one should ask, Is the gift from the haram, nothing but some zam-zam? (May Allah help us all, so that the only benefit from our journey to the haram is not just some zam-zam, but an increased iman as well) 3) tum mein horoon ka chahnay wala hi nahin jalwa-e-toor tu mojood hai, musa hi nahin There is none amongst you, who loves the hoors The blessings at toor are still present, but the like of Musa is not (toor is reference to the mountain with Musa used to talk to Allah) 4) aaj bhi ho agar ibrahim ka iman paida aag kar sakti hai andaaz-e-gulistan paida Even today if the iman of Ibrahim is born The fire can bring forth a flower bed 5) yoon tu syed bhi ho, mirza bhi ho, afghan bhi ho tum sabhi kutch ho, batao kay musalman bhi ho You are Syed, and Mirza and Afghan as well You are everything, but say are you Muslim as well? (arrghh I can't stop! more and more of his poetry keeps coming back to me) rasam reh gaye rooh-e-balali na rahi falsafa reh gaya, talkeen-e-ghazali na rahi The tradition is left, the spirit of Balal is gone The philoshophy is left, the advice of al-Ghazali is gone (first line is reference to adhan) |

| [slm] Quite a influential personality to discuss, as his thoughts and concepts are more relevant today then ever before. They point out our weakness and not only that but show us the way to reconstruct out religious believes. I don’t want to end the topic but his last words have a very, very touching as well as a hopeful look towards future and probably today’s modern generation - & probably he was counting on the youth generation of Islam to lead the way. The departed melody may return or not! The zephyr from Hijaz may blow again or not! The days of this Faqir has come to an end, Another seer may come or not! [wlm] |

(thanks)[/quote] 'Tis must for intellect to guard the heart But at times do leave it alone to its own This is in refrence to the philosophy that intelect or rational capacity has to stay guard or keep an eye on the emotions of man because ultimately satan can influence heart too. But do not be rigid over such a watch. In Islam, both Intellect and heart comes under its rules, formulated by the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Hope that helps :) |

| [slm] First of all this is not Iqbaal ;) The other day a dear Friend and I were discussing missed opportunities in life in the form of poetry when he shared this couplet written by his uncle Raza e-Rab pe Razi reh, yeh Hurf e Aarzoo kaisa; Khuda Khaliq, Khuda Malik Khuda ka hukm to tu kaisa? Be content with the will of Allah swt, Why this lament for missed opportunities Allah swt is THE CREATOR , Allah swt is THE RULER,and if its the will of Allah swt,then what are you (why this lament) [wlm] |
