Alhumdullillah we are all right.. a bit shaken to say the least. Well, not red belt Ali! As to any typical boy, it just looked like an amazing movieto him! Ignorance is bliss...

We were on our way to karate class and Ali pulled out the tape recorder for us to listen to nasheeds... we got a beater car... the batteries ran out. so we discussed whether to turn on the radio.

Astgfirullah... I agreed. (flash back to the story about the boy and the car crash and the radio!)

We argued over which station and I finally just turned it off.

As we are going I see a patrol car to my left and think oh shoot... for the first time everwell, maybe not 'ever', I was speeding. I figured I was nabbed. Another car goes by and it is a couple of kids with a funky hairdo.  I watch as they weave in and out of trafic and wonder why the cop isn't following them.

As I am approaching an on ramp to the highway I noticed this truck with the brightest blue load of pipes coming on. He was driving a reasonable speed.

Alhumdullillah, it is amazing how quickly your mind goes into survival. In a matter of seconds I see his load shift, I look quicky to see if I can avoid it without causing other accidents. & there is a semi coming up my backend...obviously not seeing my back break lights or the truck about to tip. I really had no choice but to side swipe a car or be smooshed by the semi behind me.

So I decide to ram the car next to me. The rest is hard to explain. I am not sure what happened, but as a Muslim I do know. With in a second I was stopped on the highway, never hit the car next to me and the semi was able to stop in time! Even the pipes went flying, but the truck formed a barrier and they went flying in the opposite direction!

Of course at this time we were close enough to read the serial numbers off the gas tank! a little bit of an exaggeration!

Subhana Allah!

It was wonderful tho to see all the drivers running to rescue the truck driver... even one kid who was obviously disabled. Ali wanted to run and help.... he is still mad that I wouldn't let him out of the car.

The part of this accident that scared me was that just say 5 minutes before I may have died i might have been listening to a rock/rap station.  Even tho we rarely do... it was just that one time....

An amazing thing is...remember when I was talking about putting duas all over the house. Well I put one long one in my car. Every time I get in the car, now, I flip down my visor and read it.

I am thinking that couple of seconds I take were the couple of seconds I may have been under those pipes.

From previous posts, you may remember that I have been working on a non-Muslim Funeral brochure. Hmmmm....

Life does seem a bit shorter now and you just really do not know if you are going to make it to your next prayer.

as a post script... all the cars started to illegally do u-turns on the highway and go up the on ramp!  i wanted to, but did not want to give the police any reason to go after me. As one walked by I asked if we could do it and he said absolutely not.... meanwhile about 30 cars are!

The semi trucker came up to me and told me I could get off, affter I explained to him what the cop had said he seemed surprised.

Awhile later he came and made some small talk. Which surprised me. As he left my car I saw him go chat with the police officer. Two seconds later the cop comes to Ali's side of the door and opens it! Remember... ten minutes earlier I had rolled down my window to speak to him.

I have no idea what his intentions were.... my guess is the trucker saw the large black bag on Ali's lap, saw I was Muslim, put 2 an2 together and got 5.
(It was Ali's Karate bag filled with sparring gear)

I think the officer saw his outfit, the name of the acadamy on the bag, and it was in the direction we were going)

But still it irritated me. He said."mam, just letting you know we will have you out of here as soon as we can." I just smiled and said thank you.

right... you were checking us out....

Ps... thanks to those who sent their good wishes and flowers!

Alhumdullilah you and your family are ok.  Car accidents are terrible, and something I never want to be in again.  Its important to maintain concentration whenever driving.  Any problems I have, I just forget about them whenever I get behind the wheel, and focus strictly on driving.  Because things like this are what lead to accidents.  And I'm always looking around me and anticipating what the other cars will do on the street, weather this one will change langes, or stay put, or what if he goes here and this one goes there, what should I do, do I have a way out  in case something goes wrong.  So many times this way of dealing with things has been instrumental in me avoiding so many accidents.

Alhamdulillah that you and ali are fine. It must have been quite an experience.

Since i got carjacked last spring i make it a point to *never* drive without saying the transportation du'a and when i'm coming home after dark i read this du'a:

"Bismillahi allathee al yadurru ma'a ismihi shay'an wa huwa as-samee' al 'aleem"

In the name of Allah with whose name nothing can harm and He's the All-Hearer, All-Knower.

So many times i've escaped an accident in a blink of an eye by the Grace of Allah[swt] and i feel every so thankful for having remembered to say my du'a.

Oh and btw i hate 18-wheelers  >:(

Sis hope you and your son are doing ok insha Allah

Bunch of crazy loco drivers out there *sigh*

Man ...

It's always important to say duah al rukoob (the duah of riding or of travelling) before driving.

I dunno about the rest of you guys but where I live (down south) ppl drive like maniacs.

Make sure as a precaution that when you go shopping for a car, that it has relatively good brakes and good acceleration.

But then again if Allah wills there to be an accident it'll happen.

May Allah protect all the fellow Muslim drivers out there.

Did I? The mind is getting feeble.

The only one I can remember did not involve me. It was the one where a trucker nearly escaped death after rolling down an embankment in an accident. After he climbed out and as he crossed the road he was hit and killed.

Then there was the bus inncident.... where it was apparently going to blow an engine and everyone upfront was terrified while we were sitting in the back, oblivious to it all.... kind of forshadowing of the last hour....
