Needs guidance please

I have started to learn about Islam because of my boyfriend, and have become very interested in the religion over the past couple of months. I am a christian right now, but, some of the things we're supossed to believe never made a lot of sense to me, and I didn't agreee with many things the bible says, especially it's views on women, and I always thought that those were things that had been changed by man throughout the centuries to keep women under the control of men. And my boyfriend said that the bible is different than when it was first written, and that if I thought that was changed, why didn't I believe that other things were changed. I guess I'm just asking for some guidance. Is there a book I could read, or a good website with some information maybe that could answer a couple of questions I've still got.
I think the main thing that's got me right now, is the differences in the status of Jesus between the two religions. One says he's the son of God who died for our sins, and the other says he was a messenger of God.
I do want to find the right path to God, I'm hoping someone here will be able to help. Thank you

Hi Missy,

I'm so glad you're learning about Islam for information purposes:) There's a list of good books you can check out that I made here --> Top 20 books for those interested in Islam

There are also alot of good websites.. if ur looking for information on muslim women check out jannah.org/sisters

and feel free to ask any questions you have here :)
and yes... in Islam Jesus peace be upon him is a respected prophet and messenger of God who brought a message and peace to mankind, but along the way his message of true worship to God was changed and lost. And people made up the concepts of the trinity etc..

I know how you feel.  I tried just about every Christian denomination looking for the right on.  They all had the same basic teachings that distorted the message of the Prophets.  I kept outgrowing them.  Islam is the only one that I will never outgrow because there is so much to learn and it is based on "Pure" faith and practice. :)

To Jannah:

Thank you for the list of books.  Some of them may be good for me to get for my family whi are non-Muslims. ;)

Hello there Missy,

  I am glad to hear that you have been studying Islam with an open mind.  It probably is hard at first because the status of Jesus is different in both religions and may be confusing.  But all you can do is research as much as you can about how the two religions view Jesus.  I have a great article you can read if you'd like--I met a very nice sister who moved to Oman from Denver, CO and has been living there for over 10 years now as a Muslimah.  She was a Christian before and studied the differences of both religions.  The link I am giving you here is to her story of why she embraced Islam and is a very long, but very very thorough with many verses of the Holy Bible and where she found discrepancies and then verses and comments of the Qur'an.  I printed it out once to show a friend and it was like 25 pages but it is very much worth the time to read because of all the information she included in it.  I wrote her to tell her how I was so impressed with the "essay" and she told me that it was a letter she wrote to her father or both parents--I can't remember--so they would come to an understanding of why she chose Islam.  Perhaps it can help you in understanding more the stance on Jesus and other issues as well.
You are welcome to contact me anytime you wish if you would like some help.

Peace be upon you all!

Sorry sister Ameera, but I cant see the link. Or did I miss sth.

To sister missy, We are glad that you want to follow the straight path to God. Everyday in our prayer, we recite the following:

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Praise be to God, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds;
Most Gracious, Most Merciful;
Master of the Day of Judgment.
Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek.
Show us the straight way,
The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray.
[Qur'an 1:1-7]

You see, even though we, as Muslims, have faith in our heart that we are on the right path, yet it was God's Mercy that brought us to recognize it. And, therefore we must keep Him in focus and seek His guidance in every step we take.
And, with God's Mercy you have taken that first step (Thank God) and you just need to make the best possible effort with the guidance that comes to you.
May God Most High make the journey to Truth easy for you and every (righteous) seeker. Ameen!

wa-Salam
asap  :)

Thank you all for the replies. Jannah, the list of books will help, thank you for that. I even got a copy of the Quran the other day, and have started to read it. I'm not sure if it was one of the recommended translations that was in the list of books though.
Ameera, I would love to read your friends story of why she chose Islam, but could not find the link..
I know I have questions, but I can't think of them right now! When I do, I'll post them.
Thanks again  :)
