The Simpsons?

Just a curious question.  I went through much of the process of telling some of my muslin friends about me converting and one of them said that Muslims were not allowed to watch the simpsons.  (world famous, oh-so-funny, TV show) because it had something to do with the freemasons.  Now, I know from personal experance that the free masons are harmless (just a bunch of idoits pretending that they are special because they have a secret handshake) so why?  Is there such a opionon?

I am interested to get an answer to this question also.  My 12 year old keeps trying to watch it in her room when she thinks I'm too busy to hear it.  Momma has verrrrry good hearing! ;D ;D

as salaamu alaykum,

I doubt very much that there is any affiliation between the Simpsons and the Free Masons  (man, some of the conspiracy theories people come up with are pretty out there ::))

but even so.. an association with the Free Masons doesn't make the Simpsons any more/less allowable than otherwise.  It's the content of the show that should be taken into consideration.

Please research into the character of the creator of this cartoon series and then decide if it is against anything..Inshallah you will be surprized to the depth of this cartoons impression and the way its presented...

If we "muslims" say something on a clerical level , it will be sounding pretty dumb and Islam looks like a hate religion...but please do an independent research into the mind which has created this cartoon and you shall be informed yourself....

I agree with Mulla, there are a lot of overtones with the freemasons.  Especially one episode, where Homer thinks he's, what, a new leader or, something even blasphemous, I think. I can't remember what the episode is called.

Personally, it's an individual choice I think.  I stopped watching it because of some of the context, and that one episode mentioned above was enough to put me off it.

I did a little searching on the net about Matt Groening and didn't really come up with any convincing answers about the freemason connection.  I guess like Se7en said, you have to judge it by the content on whether you want to watch it.  Religion is a recurrent theme but it's really mostly about Christian values.  Some of the stuff may be on the edge for some tastes but I think it's quite harmless.
