is this the curiosity that kills the cat ?!

[slm] all [read this in context of "Matrix Reloaded" thread]

i was just wondering that is it okay (okayesh) that we violate any ruling of islaam for study?!? purposes, i dont really know how to put it but let me give you an example that might relate..

Actually there arn't many clubs/dance parties held here in lahore pakistan, well its not a norm, but recently a new restaurant got started here and in this place they arrange DJ dance parties on weekends (after 11 pm). I wasn't aware of that so some friends and i were there just for the dinner when we came to know about the whole thing, although we finished our dinner and dint wait to watch the "devil's dance" but a couple of my friends said that they dont believe that something like an open dance party (couples !) would actually start (u know its was a thought like... how come ppl in lahore are allowed to do it openly!! or like did we achieve this milestone of cheaposity too !) <= so these thoughts urged few of us to go there and see for ourselves that whether the devil's dance is ON or not, but alhamdolillah another friend and i dint let those urges to have the better of us and finally we decided that we are not stepping in that dung if its there !!

A friend added that there are even worse things happening around us so lets assume that the devil's dance is actually ON and because we can't do much about it else than praying for those who are being cruel to their souls by indulging in such activities and take this event to buck ourselves up for more dawah work, hence we refrained from entrying the dung mania

Now, here are the questions that are wobbling around in my mind

1- Did my friends and i do the right thing? or it would've been okay if we stepped in the big dung case !?

2- Does it relate to watching movies!? Do we watch them for knowledge/study purposes or its just a lame excuse because there are many other sources of knowledge and because we all know very well that many movies will just leave us embarrassed infront of our friends or our family and more importantly Allah [swt], so how important watching movies is, considering the said ?!

3- Is this the curiosity that kills the cat ?!

4- How do we lower our gaze while watching movies !!?

5- We take all the safety measures to be safe from harm in this life, do we do the same for the afterlife !?

[wlm] bro

i moved your topic out here.. the issue of movies/music and other things being haram has been discussed quite bitterly here over and over again. there's not much else to say that hasn't been said.

i'd appreciate it if we could be inclusive of people with all different kinds of opinions and imaan.  if u are a person that does not watch any movies/tv then good for you... however some of us do, and would appreciate knowing when those things are relatively clean or not...

yes i dont watch movies/tv but all of us experience different states of faith, "nafs-a-lauwama" right?

But i would like to add something here i.e. i was a kind of person who used to watch 2 movies daily on the average, used to watch TV alot too and i know from my experience that this stuff corrupts us, sometimes in a minor way sometimes major, i'm not saying that those who watch movies have weak imaan (faith) [Allah forbid] as i'm taught to always think of others as better Muslims.

i'm myself searching for answers though i refrain from watching movies now.

Personally I think they should ban [u]indecent [/u]american movies/indian movies in Muslim countries. (and if there is just an indecent act in one lil scene then just to cut it out. )

I have truly heard from someone there that the reason Pakistan is getting corrupted is because many kids are watching American movies that involve indecent acts and shows girls wearing indecent clothes.

They wont do it coz they dont do it !! we'll have to do it ourselves, by word of mouth and by working on the faiths of people so that they then easily accept the good things that are told to them.
