virus detected on my comp?

If Norton Antivirus finds a virus, will it delete that virus for me?  I got a notice that it has found a virus and gave the file name--of which I cannot find anywhere and for "action taken" it says "unable to repair this file".
I am worried since I cannot find it but is it because the program has already trashed it for me?   :(

Do you have the live update feature for Norton Antivirus?  If so download the update.

I had similar problems with NAV.  The live updates only worked half of the time.  I gave up on it and bought McAfee VirusScan 7.0.  I get at least 1 update for new viruses every two weeks.  With McAfee you get 1 year of unlimited updates and 1 free upgrade in the year.  I plan to get my free upgrade at 7 - 9 months from installing it.

If you have an "Office Depot" or "Staples" in your area they usually have good prices for their software.  You also get a certificate for 1 additional McAfee product at a 25% discount in the box that the VirusScan comes in. ;)

PS  I DO NOT work for any of the companies that I mentioned.  I am just trying to help out.

Well Norton Anti Virus has live update option to catch new viruses so please try it. If you can't find that file in your computer then most probably that file itself is a virus what your antivirus software has detected. So go ahead and let the Norton Anti Virus software delete the file.

But as Sister Yasmeena said McAfee is better than Norton Antivirus and their support is also better than Norton.

Depends on which version of NAV you're using.

As the other brother said it may have put it under quarantine, or not have been able to delete it at all.

You probably cannot see it as it may be a hidden file.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Find out the directory path to the virus. If you go under NAV 2003 and select Reports -> Quarantined Items -> View Report
you will see a list of all viruses quarantined.

2. Select the list of including the quarantined files, just highlight one hold your shift key and hit the down arrow key to select all the files. (Unfortunatly NAV didn't implement the lovely CRTL-A 'select all' feature)

3. Right click and select delete. It'll ask you if you want to delete all the files.

Afterwards the virus should be gone. If you like, you can PM me the name of the virus if you're interested in knowing more about or you can check out NAV's virus encyclopedia.

I recommend doing an entire system scan for viruses and afterwards insha Allah the virus should be gone.

Good luck.
