Thought you guys might like this.

============

An old Arab man lived alone in Idaho. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, Abdul, who used to help him, was being held by the FBI for aiding and abetting terrorists. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.

Dear Abdul,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't able able to plant my potato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me.
Your Dad,
Mohammad.

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Dad,
For heaven's sake, don't dig up that garden, that's where I buried the biological weapons.
Love,
Abdul.

At 4a.m. the next morning, F.B.I. agents and local police showed up and dug up the entire area without finding any weapons. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.

;D I'm glad people have a sense of humor about this terrorist label we've been given. It's so important to loosen up sometimes! Thanks for the joke! It was hilarious :)

Assalamu 'alaikum,

This has been changed a little. The original joke that I read was about a Palestinian being held by Israeli army, and the old man wanting to plant potatoes, so he writes to his son.............. and his son writes him back that he has weapons hidden there and the Israeli army does the work for the old man.

Wassalam.

20/20 had a show on last night where they had muslim stand up comediands making light of the current world situations.  one guy they showed started  off by saying, let's start of in the name of Allah, and he opened his trenchcoat, and was wearing some bombs (obviously fake) strapped to his body.  another guy started off by saying, i used to be iranian before 9/11, now im puerto riccan.  they had women as well, one was wearing a shalwar kamiz.  i fell asleep just as it was about to start, so i missed out on the jokes.  what do y'all think?  did anyone see it?

Saw it and laughed.  They were indeed funny, their humor playing on sur-realism.

I will have to ask around and see what the regular Americans thought. John S. did not seem to see the humor in it.

They were kind of like saying ethnic jokes. You can laugh at yourself...but no one can laugh at you with the same humor.
Like- I can tell fat jokes..but it is different if someone tells me one.

Kathy could you put up some of the jokes here?  The one joke they showed with the guy saying let's start in the name of Allah and had bombs strapped to himself, I didn't like that one, and was wondering how the others were? ???

I think it's very important to relaize that making jokes about the world situation is one thing, but making jokes at the expense of Allah SWT and His revelations is something to be avoided at all costs.  As Allah SWT says in Surah Al Kahf :

This is their punishment, Hell, because they disbelieved and took my signs and my messengers as a joke.

And there are other Ayats in the Quran similar to this.

So while satire may have its place, it should NEVER be at the expense of Allah SWT, his ayats and his messegners.  So for example, making fun of Bismillah is wrong, as would be making fun of Islamic rulings based on the Quran such as the hijab.

I recently came across some news aboud the British comidenne Shazia Mirza, and it was very clearthat some of the stuff she says definetly crosses the line.

May Allah SWT guide us all to stay on the path of Iman, Ameen.

enjoyed the joke  :)
But the title Like father like son brought a song to mind which I would like to share
Hope this gets us (fathers/Fathers to be  ;) ) thinking
[wlm]

A child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today,
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok."
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed,
Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you."
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon

I saw 20//20 friday night  :-/ and mannnnnnn it was hillariouss...some of those jokes cracked me upp..altho the "i start with the name of Allah" did make me go  ::) okayyyyyy but rest were fine...this one pakistani bro was hillarious he was making a fob accent (i think he was making it up cos later when they interviewed him he sounded like a NYker) he showed a bumper sticker that said somethign like I am a Muslim terrorist?? (or it said I m a pakistani muslim??) i forgot ..anyways and the bumper sticker had his name underneath it too..adn he goes "if u dont like someone..just put this on their car.. ::) i have few ppl who are bothering me..im gonna just put that on their car" it was sooo funny, he was like the FBI has me on the speed dial ..and one guy made a joke abt when Saddam offered to have a dialogue with Bush..and the commentator inserted somethign abt that being against america??? or soemthign and i was like mann how is that different than what JLeno says on his show?? he actually brings bush down like anything (any sane person would , i think)...and everyone over there were cracking up.. in the beginning u would think they are whack but actullay they were hillarious..and i think they did an awesome job lighthining things up..the commentators were (ofcourse) like wth abt this , they were saying HOW could u joke abt terrorism ...HOW could u do this, that blah blah..but like at the end they all agreed how its actually so hard to hate after u laugh at that..and u think "oh  :-[ they are like us" and that was the whole point.  they showed ppl who attended their show adn thought they were awesome ... the guy who owned the place i guess (or manager) said they did recieve some threatneing calls too..saying this is against nationalism or soemthign like that but he said we have to lighten things up..  :-*..
