Killing Dogs?

Asalaamu alaikum wr wb.

I want to know what is the daleel concerning killings dogs.  Right now I have a massive
problem with dogs. In my neighborhood there are a lot of dogs and since my place is not
fenced of they use my yard as a waste dump.  This problem has been going on for some years
now. I talk to my neighbors about it and they don't make an effort to control their dogs
as a matter of fact each year the number of dogs keep increasing. I approached the police
and our local Animal associations but they are all reluctant to get involved and has left
for the parties involved to solve the problem. The problem is my neighbors silpmly don't
care and I have recently got a small child and he can't even play in the yard due to the
dog mess.  Some one has offered to kill the dogs by poisoning but I need to know what's
the matter in this situation.  Thanks.

How big of a yard do you have?  Is there any way you could fence it off, or at least enough for your little one to have a play area.  I have seen some people's yards that just have a wire fence made out of field fence if they can't afford chain-link or wood.  and then as finances permit they will put some type of wood fence on the outside of it to make it more pleasing to the eye.

My problem is stray cats!  >:(  Or people who let their cats roam all day.  I have roses, azaleas, dogwood bushes and asian irises in my front yard.  The stray cats seem to think it is their litter box.   >:(  I put field fence around them to keep the "pests" away.    I also planted garlic in strategic places around my yard.  Neither dogs or cats like that.  ;)

Just my solutions to problem animals since when I called the local animal control their solution was for ME to catch the strays and only then would they pick them up.  And of course, they have a charge for picking them up and I AM supposed to pay for the spay/neuter as well ??? ???  EXCUSE ME?!?!?!

I empathize with your problem.  If you come up with any other good solutions, other than killing them, please let us know.

Check the laws in your state concerning this issue. Where I live, Colorado, all dogs must be on a leash by law.  And then, there is the issue that these dogs are tresspassing into your territory and their "dumping" can be considered littering.  In some states, one can get fined for not picking up the "dump".  You need to do some research but I am pretty sure in all states poisoning is illegal and you will end up getting in trouble with the law under "cruelty to animals".

It would probably also be a good idea to research the rules and regulations regarding building a fence on your property.  In the long run of legal fees pursuing the inconsideration of your neighboors, it could be much cheaper just building a fence.

Good luck and let us know what happens

In your case you are allowed to shoot.

Plus make sure u have the local police department approve of it and make sure the dead dog is in ur yard and not a mile away from it :)

Its really a bad idea but in ur situation where u are loosing ur rights to dogs and teritorial dispute of this sorts is allowd to be settled by means of other kinds...

In middle east we poison the stray dogs when they become a problem for kids and women who fear them more then men......

So , get a 12 guage and blast off...but get the PDepartment's attention first cause all these people who tell u that be nice to stray dogs will not come to help u if they bite ur kid.   I dont wana get into dog psychology as well , debating that all who bark dont bite...this is a public nuisance and shall be dealt with in proper ways which is not limited to use of fire arms to eradicate trouble to inhabitants of our suburbs or urban community.

SInce we are on the topic of dogs. I am going to repeat myself and ask, why muslims are not allowed to touch dogs or have them lick us???
Plus why cats over dogs?
Please don't say that DOgs are dirty. Cause the human mouth is far worse than a dog's.
I get the pig thing but the dog thing confuses me and my friends at work.
Please please help! answer this question.

We should realy understand this matter ......

There is no harm or no any form of sin in touching the dry coat of a dog!

The only limitation is the wetness or say the saliva from the mouth of a canine.

Without  much a do about nothing, lets see the scientific reasoning behind this...and as we know that in this century non muslims have an authority on science and please visit these two links to understand this point......

http://www.unclematty.com/woofpub/articles/dogsaliva.htm?#342

this link will establish the fact about dog saliva and its prohibition.

This second link will inshallah clear up the confusion about what is prohibited, the dog or its saliva by one of our teachers who runs his own website about fatawa...

I love animals and I dont belive the stupidity about animals......

If still this is not clear plz let me know so I can bring some of my Vet friends to establish the fact.........

Mulla..

Guys u dont make dua for me, i never see anyone tell me that did they benefit from my ramblings or not....are you guys scared of me ?

I bark but i dont bite ;)

I have problems with dogs too.  The neighbourhood I live in have so many dogs that right now they are like pests.  Little children can scarely go outside to play without being harassed by the dogs or trying to avoid their mess.  The owners of these dogs are really unreasonable and not accomadating at all.  We tried the ASPCA but they want us to catch it, pay them to pick it up and pay monthly to maintain the dogs while in there care >:(.........I like Mulla's suggestion since it is practical and makes a lot more sense and really seems to solve the problem. Unfortunately we don't own guns, but if anyone can recommend a good poison solution for these dogs I'd appreciate it..... 8)

Mulla, I am confused. The first article scientifically proves that Dog saliva is not harmful to humans with a few exceptions.
The second one directly states that SWEAT and saliva are bad.
I've always touched the top of a dog's head since he cant lick himself there and thus it would have no saliva. Now if sweat is bad too, I am stuck. SInce dogs run around a lot. I'm sure that they will sweat often, even mildly. So I guess you should not touch them to prevent accidentally touching the sweat???
Sister Silverrose, the site you recommended is thought provoking. I never thought of it that way. I took it as a given that if so many muslims believed that it was not good the hadith should have been authentic. Now , I need to read up.
Thanks

All this talk about killing dogs is making me queasy.  :( It sounds as though the dogs in question are not vicious or rabid, so I don't see how killing them (how? with poison? shoot them?) could be right.  It certainly wouldn't be legal.  Maybe the cops won't do anything about them invading your yard, but they'll be over to your house in a flash if Frenchy, Fido and Fang all turn up dead!  :o

Since the authorities are no help, maybe you can try Small Claims court.  The dogs are the personal property of your neighbors, and their "personal property" is encroaching on your right to the "quiet enjoyment" of your yard.  You could document the ... er... "evidence" and instigate a lawsuit against these clowns to get them to:

1. Keep their doggies and doggie by-products out of your yard.
2. Pay for the clean-up of your yard.

This might result in the dog-free yard you want, although it won't improve relations with your neighbors.

Or, like Ameera said, maybe you can start investigating putting in a fence.  Not only would it keep the dogs out, it would keep your child IN and avoid a lot of hard feelings.  ;)
