Let's Assume...

Let's assume that I am on a bus/train/donkey on my way to college. Let's assume on said mode of transport, I meet a person who is interested in Islam (we can assume the donkey is the designated ''communal donkey'' so to speak). Let us assume that I have one book/tape in my bag that informs people of Islam.

What should the book/tape be?

It should
1) Educate the person about Islam
2) Convert them(!)
3) Interest  them further in the religion

which book would you choose for each purpose?

ma asalaamah and take care

Personally, it should be the Qur'an.

A good da'wah book of course would combine all three.  The first books I was ever given was a pamphlet on Women in Islam, and the "Illustrated Guide to Islam."  The first one went right over my head -- it used hadith and Qur'an to explain the position of women -- but was written in archaic language and just turned me right off.  The Illustrated Guide was excellent in understanding -- but I felt like I was being preached to (but that was also an issue on my part -- I was anti-religion at the time, so everything was "preachy"!  It's actually a great book).

But it wasn't until I first learned (and understood!) the basics of the religion -- removed all of my misconceptions -- and actually began reading the Qur'an and discussing it, that I was open to God and Islam.

Peace,
Nistar

I didn't think about it, but yeah the Illustrated Guide to Islam is a good one to give to people.  I really like the What Islam is All About book by Yahiya Emerick.  I'd probably opt to go with that for all 3 cases.

Assalamu 'alaikum,

It should be no. 3. The interest itself would lead the person to educate him/her more (first choice), and more education itself would lead to conversion ( second choice).

Wassalam.

i'll go for number 3 inshAllah, personally i would like giving out:

** 1 ** A brief illustrated guide to islaam
** 2 ** Yes, Converted to islaam and here is why

The second one contains comments of famous converts about islaam, not all of em are famous but i think its a gr8 book
